I've never heard that in my life regarding a starting QB in the first game of the year.

I didn't believe it when I heard it. I thought it was coachspeak for, "he wasn't performing as well as I wanted him to."

I heard Petrino say that as he went off the field at half time, and yet at the post game he said he had planned on playing Jackson, and played him more because of the penetration the defense was making.

Did Jackson come in on the very next series following the fumble recovery and TD? The reason I ask is that I noticed Reggie didn't make an effort to run down the play. Maybe Petrino was less than impressed with that lack of effort. Just a theory, and probably a wrong one. At least I hope so.

Yes, Jackson did enter the game for the next series, right after Auburn kicked off following the TD they scored on the fumble. That was why I thought Petrino pulled him: not able to get to the end zone, which he struggled doing last year.

That was the way it looked to me. My immediate reaction was "Where's Reggie?" He had us moving the ball before the turnover.

The lack of hustle on the turnover/TD explains a lot. Message sent.

How many times have We seen Reggie fumble the ball then the defense scoops and scores? It's not the first time, or even the second time. Reggie can be a good QB the way he runs and passes, but sometimes he has a bad case of fumbles at the worst possible time ever.

I think Petrino just got tired of it and wanted to try something "New".

He was apparently too tired to give chase on the fumble return. As far as I'm concerned, he can rest up on the bench the rest of the season.

Reggie is not a D1 QB period.

Jackson took the first snap of the game, So I guess he was actually the starter. I expect him to be the starter from now on. The CBS announcers were comparing him to Michael Vick during the second half. If he can live up to that, it totally changes the outlook for this season. Can't wait for Saturday...

The kid has IT, and there is no denying that. He is going to be special. You could tell when Bridgewater had IT, and this kid has IT too. He will play in the NFL in a few years.

Rule #1 with Bobby. You don't fumble the football! You must be tired, if your dropping the football.

To be fair to Reggie, the Auburn DT (Adams) was unblocked (Epps tried but failed) and was already tackling RB before he could hand the ball off to Jeremy Smith. That's what caused the fumble, not sloppiness by RB or JS.

I agree, but then Bobby would say he should've taken the sack. Freshman make mistakes..2nd year guys are on the clock.

Take it's FWIW...and I have no ability to go back to watch any replay at this time, but watching the game alone on Sat. I even blurted out loud about how poorly and slow RB seemed to be handing the ball off prior to the debacle hand-off.

For the record. I didn't respond to myself.

Go cards!

I thought it was a slow two-handed handoff. It truly wasn't a read-option scenario so why he wasn't using one hand and getting to JS is beyond me. I think Arab has talent but I just don't feel his decision-making is there. Don't know that we have time to let it develop. IF the line can block I think Kyle would be the guy. But...

Yeah, the Yankees had a guy who needed a rest, so they let a kid named DiMaggio play.

The guy got a looonnnggg rest.

Or so the legend goes...;)

It was Gehrig not DiMaggio who went in for Wally Pipp and proceeded to start over two thousand games before being taken out due to the effects of ALS.

You are absolutely correct. Gehrig for Pipp.

Different names. Same point. LJ for RB may be for a long time...or until the next play.
