Anyone have any lightbulbs and things synced with Alexa? I'm contemplating it. I've got an Echo, but no wifi-enabled lights. Heard it can help with electric bills. I'm also trying to create an environment where I can be the laziest POS possible. Worth the money?

We had light switches put in our house, that turn on/off the lights when you flip them. Much better than having to pull a string or something every time, imo.

I get smart homes in theory but I can't really imagine using voice commands regularly. My car, phone, TV, Apple TV, and Fire TV all respond to vocal commands but I rarely, if ever, use them.

Well, we've apparently become rich enough as a society that regular light bulbs no longer get the job done, I guess.

I also heard of these things called candles, where you get heat AND light. Anyone have one? Seems farfetched to me, but thought I'd ask.

You seem more the "Clapper" type.

I just said "Alexa, are you here"? She said "Yes, I listen when I hear the wake word". I hadn't spoken to her for at least two weeks, but it's nice to know she's there.

I have 8 Hue bulbs. White only. I don't have any use for bulbs that change colors.

I love them. I only have them in the lamps in the house, but I love lamp light instead of overhead light at night. I find them to be very cool and convenient.

For one, I'm lazy. I have 7 lamps in the living room, kitchen, and master bedroom. One voice command turns them all on to whatever % magnitude I choose. I also have them grouped into rooms and names so I can just turn on one room or turn off one individually.

You also needed to get the IFTTT app to add recipes. For instance, "Alexa, trigger good night" turns all the lamps in the house off when I go to bed. I have an Echo Dot on the nightstand so I can do this after I'm in bed rather than go around the house and in the basement turning off lamps. "Alexa, trigger quiet time" turns all the main floor lamps to 20% dim. Good for after the kids go to bed and saves energy.

My wife was skeptical, but she loves them now. Are they necessary? No, but if you have the money and want to get into the smart home thing, why not?

I also highly recommend the Nest smart thermostat.

I bought some Hue Color bulbs for a few rooms last year mainly as something for the kids for the holidays...they absolutely love them. Red and green all over the house for December, shewwweee was festive. Pink for my daughter. Oh, and blue all over for Wildcat Friend basketball games for my sons.

That said, been a couple months since I've messed with them. May keep adding just for kicks, maybe some rope light or those bloom deals. Still, it's just a novelty mos def.

Alexa is listening to everything. Amazon is hiring programmers like crazy to write code to glean every single piece of info they can get off of what they hear through Alexa to sell you stuff.

Good. I like to know someone is listening. Hopefully they're watching too.

Alexa is stupid, but I wouldn't mind some light bulbs to change Blue in my basement for UK Games, and to piss the wife off from time to time.
