Edit: Retail Phone sales like verizon

Is it worth it? Had a friend of mine say he makes around 60-70 a year doing it, but puts in long hours. Anyone ever tried it out? Pros and Cons?

If you're getting paid in Rupees, then 60-70k sounds about right.

Did this friend of yours happen to be someone who you've never met before who called your home to alert you to this exciting opportunity and also took your credit card information for the small but necessary fee for the training materials which will be arriving in 4 to 6 weeks?

60-70k [roll]

Dude must be making calls for coke king pins then. I worked for Orbitz/CheapTickets in Campbellsville while in college as a package specialist (giggle) and was a top 3 salesman my entire time there over 8 months. $8.50/hour. I was a college kid on my way to a doctorate in grad school... other people were there working that job FOR A LIVING from the 19 year old dipshit with 3 kids to the 65 year old woman that didn't know how to work a cell phone.

Im sorry guys. I am talking about a retail phone sales rep that works at Verizon or ATT

Op- Here's my story bout being a phone rep. I lasted 5 days and I quit. I was doing cold calls for a place called Envirotech, which was a company that sold to restaurants an all natural de-greaser for sinks and drains. $7 an hour.

After the fifth day, a Friday afternoon, the boss pulled two other guys and me to a table. He shoved each one of us a penny. Us 3 looked at our pennies like WTF is this. He then asked. "Why do you think I gave you those pennies?" We looked at him and shrugged. He says, "that's how much you all are worth to me".

Yep, that pretty much did it. I went home and never went back.

He sounds like a natural leader.

I did this while 18 or so. I went to the interview, and they asked me some lame *** question like, "how do you see your personal goals fitting in with Stantec?" I just started laughing hysterically, and while laughing, I made up some response about wanting to do good. However, it was such a dumb question, and I am laughing in their faces.

I was probably high. Funny thing, they gave me the job. Lasted about 2 weeks.

I worked for ATT for 5 years in a retail location. Enjoyable job with good perks...Free phone, discounts on monthly service etc. When I first started with ATT I made a little over 70K...Each year after that I made less than the previous year because they kept changing the pay plan...I enjoyed the job and would still be there if the pay plan didn't go down while goals went up. I can't speak for Verizon though other than to say a friend and former coworker worked for both and said that Verizon paid less than ATT.

You made 70k as a sales rep for a phone store starting? No degree required? How many hours a week did you work?

Early phone reps were on commission
Not sure about now.

Cousin had one of those rep jobs, made 1800 a week. They changed his commission rates because they said he was making too much money.
He told them off and quit, since his was the only one they changed.

I did it when I was 20-years-old. I lasted two days. This fat douchebag manager would come in before hand and toss a baseball around to the callers in some pathetic inspirational pre-shift speech. "You gonna play ball? " (Throws ball to random person.

Alright tough question here. Would you prefer to do phone sales or recruit and sell people Zija?

Touch all of you Zija people.

We were hourly plus commission. ATT is also Union so you got a guaranteed raise every 6 months. They prefer to hire those with a college degree (which I have from UK) and when I started the commission structure was awesome with various bonus levels that you could reach. They kept changing the commission structure so each year even though you were making more per hour, you were making less than the previous year because the commission rate was less. Since we were Union, a full time employee was working at least 40 hours. They really tried to prevent much OT but there was times when you couldn't avoid it like iPhone launch or if you were stuck late with a customer.

It was easy work too. No cold calls etc. People came to you in the store. Now you were expected to sell a certain amount of accessories each month, a certain amount of features (text, data, etc) and you had a quota for the number of new activations as well. Generally it was fairly easy to reach those quotas though. The sales came to you b

I did not work in a call center. I worked in a retail location where people came in to buy phones. There is a difference.
Yeah, that's great.

But, still can't believe you got paid 70k to solely talk on a phone to people.

Jeezle Pete.

I work for an authorized Verizon retailer in Lexington. Actually probably know OPs friend. Yea it's not out of the realm of possibility to make 60-70k. I'm on pace for around 50k, did around 8k last month. Been there almost a year are really started getting the hang of everything a couple months ago because there is a ton of **** to learn. I've never done a single cold call or any ******** like that. Simply go into the store chill with some good people for a few hours and sell phones. Pretty sweet gig actually.

EDIT: I should point out that a standard work week is like 30 hours. You can call and send texts out if you want and set appointments but it isn't required. We do have some "quota" numbers but they are difficult nor are they strict about them. We are straight commission but do receive a draw check. I prefer that because our commission is ridiculous. A guy the other day worked his 6 hour shift and made $1100.

Telemarketing blows! End of story. The last thing people want is to hear your bs line about selling them something they don't want. I've done it before and I hated it even though I can bs with the best of them. It was selling attic insulation. You would call people to get someone to come look at their attic to get their foot in the door. Next the rep would give his demo spiel about cutting edge insulation we sold. I fault like I sold my soul everytime I confirmed an appointment.

The only job I hated more was selling lawn care door to door. That should be a punishment especially if you went to a house that you knew who lived there. Absolutely horrible. I hated the idea of forcing a product down someone's throat especially if I thought it sucked

If you have good communication skills and self discipline, get into insurance sales. You should be able to make $50K the first year and then your renewals start kicking in. Slowly at first, but if you have the discipline to continue working hard, renewals will compound and grow exponentially each month. After 10 years, your renewals should be in the $200K range. There are a bunch of guys I know personally that have renewal income of over $1M a year. They have been in the business for a long time and have been set for life for a long time. Renewals is the best thing ever invented for the insurance agent.

But if talking on the phone ends up getting you $1 million a year due to good communication skills, then why stop there? You could easily try to buy the communication company out and probably make $10 to $20 million a year.

I quit my job today and just started calling people. $32,000 in one day. I think I'll invest it in start up kits for Nerium, Jamberry and Advocare. Gonna throw back a couple of Zija waters and set up my business plan. If you're interested in being a part of this one time opportunity, PM me.

Looking for a change, maybe a part time or even full time job, want a few extra dollars or more; I've got the job for you. It sure doesn't feel like a job though. Helping people feel better about themselves is very rewarding, not just financially. Watching confidence build & opportunities arise for many through empowering others it's a reward I cannot put a dollar amount on.

If you are driven, have a few minutes a day, wifi, cell/laptop, skin, desire to move up then I'm looking for you. Just think where we'd be today had we partnered w the Doctors when they were creating Proactiv. I'd be traveling the world, maybe writing again, & definitely helping those that need help.

Ready to start something new, build something rewarding? Ready to be great? I'm here, waiting for you.

I seriously doubt there is any sales rep selling phones making $1M a year.
