It's a shame they can't fire the owner. I'm not a Pirates fan although I live in western PA. A fanbase is present which is dying to cheer for a competitive team but Nutting doesn't seem to care enough to make a serious effort.
Bingo. Another manager made the sacrificial lamb to appear that they are making changes for the better. Meanwhile, the owner counts his money and lines his pockets without making any improvements to the team on a year to year basis. He’s a deadbeat. No manager would make a difference as long as Nutting is the owner.

How many teams cycle through so many players who have top end batting averages of .180?

It’s Pretty obvious the majority of this lineup and bench are less than mediocre.

If you pay to have a High A league level line up, you get these results.

Major League Baseball needs to adopt relegation. Relegation is used in English Soccer to move teams down and then Promotion is used to move a team up to replace the one moved down. Without this rule Nutting will continue to field minor league talent allowing him to collect the most money.

Promotion and relegation is used by sports leagues as a process where teams can move up and down among divisions in a league system, based on their performance over a season. Leagues that use promotion and relegation systems are sometimes called open leagues. In a system of promotion and relegation, the best-ranked team(s) in a lower division are promoted to a higher division for the next season, and the worst-ranked team(s) in the higher division are relegated to the lower division for the next season.

Same with "college" football.

How about they simply envoke a salary cap like every other major U. S. sport? And throw in a salary minimum for thieves like Nutting.

Not going to happen. Players won't have it, as well as the Powers that be in baseball. Large Markets are where the ratings are and thus the large majority of the money. A faulty system, yes. But no excuse for the Pirates performance. Look at Tampa at times for instance.

Yes, Tampa, at times. Marlins also. But those teams can’t compete long term. Every other major sport has small and large markets and has salary caps and the end product is good. The NFL is the best example. The excuse for the Pirates performance is Nutting. He’s a crook.

No argument on that, but the MLB players union basically runs the game.

MLB may be due to strike in 2026 and think salary cap will be an issue. As a Pirates fan I hope so.

The Marlins have been tanking payroll for 25 years. It's why they can't draw flies. They could literally play in Jupiter (8K) and not sell out.

There’s also a million other things to do in Florida than go to baseball game in 100 degrees.

There's a lot to do in Pittsburgh as well. It's funny, a lot of ex-Marlins (many still in the game) make Jupiter home b/c they loved it during spring training. Miami not so much. A lot of them married Jupiter girls (like Logan Morrison) and aren't going anywhere.
