RIP. Bill James called him the greatest defensive player ever, period.
Probably the best defensive second basement ever, ironically best known for an iconic home run.
Mr. Reliable. One of the few HOF members who were inducted based on their defensive play. He and Gene Alley were the best DP combo of their time.
That 60s World Series was when I became a baseball fan.
Bad week for sports fans in the burg. It’s unfortunate that he’s remembered most for his historic home run in the bottom of the ninth inning to defeat the Yankees in the 1960 World Series because he was one of the very best 2nd basemen of all time. 8 golden gloves speak for themselves. He turned the double play into an art form. His nickname during his playing days was “No Hands”. He was so lightning fast on the double play you sometimes thought he didn’t touch the ball. He made 6-4-3 automatic.
Vernon Law and Bob Skinner are the only ones left from the 1960 Pirates.

That’s fair. Brooks was far and away the best third baseman of all time. Maz the best second baseman.
