I've been a Rivals subscriber for nearly 10 years and frequently visit the opposing teams' message board after a Pitt win or a hard fought loss, to gain a fresher perspective on the team I root for and a closer look at the opponent, whose fans often provide more info than some announcing teams.
Anyway, I just wanted to commend this board on the collective pragmatic disposition taken after today's loss. Of the 6 page thread, I didn't read one post that can be described as childish or condescending. It probably reflects confidence earned through years of unparalleled, sustained success. Granted, a lack of history between the schools certainly quells any bitterness or disgust typically reserved for conference competing, but nonetheless, I'm still impressed. Nice job across the board.
More insight. Every team has it's day, both for and against them. Pitt was due as it hadn't beaten a top 20 team all season and over the past 15 years or so, it was common to not lose a home game to a top 20 team. In fact, the Peterson Events Center has never had a "storm the court" celebration. I'm saying that to say, the team was waaayyyy overdue.
Today was Pitt's last chance to achieve some feat reminiscent of the program it used to be, ..........so Duke ran into a buzz saw. It happens. Pitt ran into one at Louisville. It means nothing for Duke in the bigger scheme. For Pitt, it means nothing as well, aside from tournament seeding. They shot well. Most teams win when the shoot well. Personally, I would have been more impressed if they won without shooting well.
Well wishes........
