Been awhile, best places for a decent dinner in State College?
Unfortunately, not the Corner Room anymore. It’s under new management. We used to like the food and it was inexpensive. Last time we were there after a game in the fall, the menu had shrunk down to very little options and the food wasn’t good. Average at best. It’s too bad, it was a State College landmark.

Solid options are: American Ale House (Toftrees); Duffy’s Tavern (Boalsburg); Otto’s Pub; Happy Valley Brewing; Facia Luna. Haven’t been back yet to the Tavern since it reopened, so no comment on it. If you opt burger & fries route (or other sandwich options), The Field in Toftrees is quite good.

The new Tavern is very good. Other options not already listed: Gigi’s; Central Reservation; Kelly’s Steakhouse in Boalsburg

The Field (Toftrees) is good (I was there in late October) and seemed to be well staffed.

The Greek. Owned by the family that owns the Waffle Shop.
I just recently saw this restaurant featured on Campus Eats on B1G Network. It looked fantastic. I plan on giving it a try the next time I am in town.

Tavern is now over priced with a very different menu than before.
Gigi's -- southern dishes primarily, not my cup of tea.
Kelly's -- as long as you'll eat your food THIER WAY -- you are OK. Don't eat their have never had a great meal.

Try Duffy's in Boalsburg, Hublersburg Inn (Howard), Penn Stater if you like buffet.

Ale House -- different menu to say the least. main focus Cajun seafood
Otto's -- you got to be kidding -- burger joint and not very good
Happy Valley Brewing -- pretty good
Facia Luna -- good pizza, few italtian dishes, seafood.

Allen Street Grill is great. Solid menu and they have a very good wine selection. Service is top notch. Not cheap, but probably the nicest place to eat Downtown. .

I think in part inability to get employees, and have a full menu with COVID concerns has compromised the product. This has affected a lot of restaurants. Hopefully it turns around at some point in the near future.

While I can understand and accept this as a challenge, the limited food they had just wasn’t good. A limited product is one thing, a poor product is another. Pat Croce needs to up his game here.

HaHa. Are you an expert? How dare you give restaurant suggestions on a sports board. Next you'll be giving instructions on how to fix a dryer? What a goof.
Glad to come fix your dryer or other appliances; just $125/hour

Have you actually been to the Ale House? Yes, they have Cajun seafood as option, but to say that’s the main focus on menu is laughable. They have a large and extensive menu.

Re: Otto’s, it’s much more than a burger joint. No, it’s nowhere close to fine dining, but it’s a respectable dinner option of the casual setting (similar to Happy Valley Brewing). Between the two, beer better at Otto’s but food better at HVB.

Red Horse Tavern in Pleasant Gap. About 7 miles from State College. Great foo, drink and service.
