Playing Bama was a dumb idea to begin with

Alabama has been on a NFL level the past 10 years, winning championship after championship. Last night's game proved to be a dumbass decision.

The only thing dumber is Petrino letting his players talk **** in the media about beating Alabama. Louisville has always had their fair share of stupid athletes in my time watching the program. Letting these type of players in front of a microphone is a bad idea.

What a bad opening night for UofL. Brohm needs to be approached sooner than later, he really does.

During Petrino's first term, a player would have been scared to death to trash talk in the media because the punishment would have been brutal. Bobby is now a player's coach and apparently players have access to the media and can say all the stupid things they want. At the time the Alabama game was being worked out, the Louisville Football program was on a roll and Jurich wasn’t about to pass up a chance to play the gold standard of college football teams just so we could ease into the season. Louisville Football has never been about that.

I agree, the trash talking was foolish and the mental breakdowns are getting tiresome.

Yeah it was ugly but in reality, what it was, was one non-conference loss to a team that’s won 5 of the last 9 National Championships.

What exactly is the downside of playing Alabama? Louisville wasn't good to be a title contender this year anyway. Losing the game and even getting blown out doesn't matter in the grand scheme of things.

Depending on the team and coaching this could be a real wake up call to everyone in the program. You aren't as good as you thought you were either individually or collectively. You can't compete if you don't execute at the highest level.

Playing great non conference team in the 1st or 2nd game should be an annual game. That is the only way to see the status of your program. What we saw and more importantly the Louisville program (coaches and players)have a long way to go to be even competitive which is humbling.

I think the people who can be honest about where Petrino has the program now, letting the talent base slide to this level know there was no upside to playing that game. I want to see a little more before I can say it for sure, but this might be the least talented U of L team since Strong's first season after the Kragthorpe mess.

He didn't recruit or they failed to have a elite recruiter on that side of the ball. Recruiting mistakes show up later the recruiting on that side of the ball hasn't been good. They are misevaluating players big time especially on the back end. They have brought in a ton of corners and none of them are really good.

Hard to really call three years “long term” - wouldn’t you say? Grantham’s wasn’t exactly a Bud Foster type situation after all. The issue with Grantham IMO was less about recruiting and more about having a too complex scheme for the talent level and depth at Louisville and as importantly, the amount of coaching time that the NCAA allows on a weekly basis. Grantham recruited well at Georgia and I suspect that he’ll recruit well at Florida. Unfortunately UofL does not recruit itself like those schools do - so it’s gotta be a total staff effort. BP has never shown any interest in assisting recruiting on that side of the ball in any meaningful way - that’s an issue.

As for the corners - Jaime Alexander aside - a couple of them were thought highly enough of by Oklahoma and Ohio St. to get scholarships. They looked overmatched against the Gumps - let’s see how they do in conference before saying they suck.

The bottom line is we got better players back then and regardless of the exceptions they were recruited by more good programs than the players we are getting now. At some point even you have to look at your arguments based on the teams we put on the field then versus now and admit the talent level difference is not disputable, even by people who can't bear criticizing Petrino 2.0. In year 4 of Petrino 1.0 no team in the country was better or deeper than we were. In year 5 of Petrino 2.0 we are not even a top 40 team more than likely.

In 2007 the recruiting was ranked in the mid 40's . In 2016 it was the low 30's. Not sure what your point is.

Lol. Do you even watch the NFL? There’s not one NFL team Bama could beat not even Cleveland.

Yep that’s it fire Bobby because he lost to the same team most all teams lose too. Although their not an NFL caliber team they are at the top of the college game.

I didn’t wave a white flag and I attended the game. Was I shocked at the outcome....nope. Just look at FSU last year or USC several years ago. Could we have played better sure. But I’ll hold judgment until the end of the season.

And why Brohm. I think he’s 7-7 right now. That’s not impressive.
