Tom was 14-5 in his first year as HC. Might end up with the most dual losses in a season in his coaching career at Iowa.
I can somewhat stomach a few losses at this point but my issue is the product just isn't any fun anymore. I'm at the point for the first time in watching 40 years of iowa wrestling,. I may look for other things to do. Its not just the loss today. Its not an over reaction. Its been a long time build up. When do the fans stop showing up for this product? I've been close but today did it. And I'm fine with the door hitting my arse too. Life can be better spent then forehead banging wall.
A lot of this is what would be required to make a change...or an Okie situation where a big donor came in and forced a change.
Did we sell out this year? I can't think we did. The home schedule is weak, and it was a slap in the face of fans, who have sold out the arena for years, to have a dual on a GD Thursday night at 6pm.
Apathy is officially setting in with fans - not good.
Sadly, our big donor is more worried about being Tom's buddy than what's actually best for the program.
I think we win them all except PSU. Oklahoma State threw everything they had the first time and we beat them without a heavyweight and Caliendo won't get screwed on that weird 3 and 2 call again that cost him that match. Ohio State will be an interesting rematch but I think we bounce back there as well. Don't think Peterson is getting pinned again, but maybe Bouzakis will end up being a finalist at 125. Wouldn't be surprised if Gabe is at 174 by the time we get to some of those duals too, or at least wrestling some of them even if PK is holding the spot.
I’m tired of our senior “leaders” constantly shitting the bed. It’s like a broken record. Guys plateau hard in the room, whether it’s from injury, getting out coached/scouted, new talent, or whatever.
That has been the most tiring part of the last decade plus.
Unfortunately many sports fans are in this boat. And it's not just wrestling. Ticket price in Costco up more and more in the average fan wants to see results for the money they spent.
It's happening in pro football, college football and all across the board. Hell some box seats for a Philadelphia Phillies game were well over $100. For a baseball game.
When you combine the high ticket prices with less competitive performances fans get upset.

Everyone has been talking about how great PK has looked to start the year. He had one bad match against a funky opponent where, in my opinion, he looked like he was really pressing to score points - probably realizing that he needed bonus if Iowa had any chance to win the dual.

This. I get that Iowa wrestling might have some unattainable expectations at times, but our development and fight has been non-existent for years. Even when we get the top recruits, they struggle with longevity and meeting their potential. I don’t care if we beat Penn State or even when a trophy, but I’d love to see some fire back in the program.
