Obviously Ryan Young played relatively well. Ty Berry played 31 minutes and outperformed the guys he was teamed with, who were generally awful.

With Buie sick, Greer did not have his favorite teammate.
Lineups with Nance and Beran got pulverized 22-8 in about 6:30.

The pairing of Ryan Young and Pete Nance finally got some playing time and performed well (as expected) beating the Hawkeyes 30-24 in 13 minutes of action.
Lineups that had a frontcourt other than "Young and Nance" or "Nicholson at garbage time" got massacred 46-19 in about 20 minutes.

Young and Nance together. Thats been the obvious choice all year. What should have been.
Instead they've gotten about 5 minutes a game together, whereas Beran and Nance have averaged 16 minutes a game together.

Obviously, that is 100% on the coach.

Robbie Hummel said this again last night. I've watched a lot of college basketball and have otherwise never heard an announcer state which lineup should be playing, in contradiction to a coach.

Wondering what made CC staple Beran to the bench? Was he sick? Was CC mad he could not, as it was so predictable, hand with K Murray?

I think he was likely sick. CC said after the game that a few guys were sick. He didn't identify them, outside of Boo, but I bet that Beran was one of them.

Begs the question: if both Buie and Beran were sick, and just trying to give it a go, why start them? And both at the same time? Right from when the tone from the game might be determined. Questionable.

You've been harping on this for a while, and it looks as if you're right. Greer can't do much without Buie on the court. That means that Greer is useless as the back-up point guard. The back-up point guard needs to be productive while the starter rests. Based on last night's rotation, it looks as if Coach Collins sees Barnhiser rather than Roper as a future point guard unless (and this is a big unless) Roper was one of the sick players last night. If this is the case, then Brooks needs to take a big step forward in the off-season, and there's no real reason for Greer to return.

He said that he always leaves it up to the player about whether or not they want to play. I'm sure Buie wanted to give it a go; he's a warrior. Plus, you've got to play your best players. They're already playing one of the hottest teams in the league on the road. You have to go with your best lineup. Plus, it looked to me like Greer might have been sick, too. He didn't look like himself, either.

Our best lineups do not include Beran. He's not one of our best players either.

That's a valid point. Whether or not it's the "best" lineup, it's the starting lineup. I guess that's what I meant.

I’m sick too. I’m sick of watching losing basketball. Only 6 minutes for MN? (And no fouls!). At least BB got some meaningful time.

Yes I have been saying positive things about the Buie/Greer backcourt all year.
Greer's minutes are up sharply from last year.
What has surprised me is that the team has played "okay" when Greer is out there with guys not named Boo. Thats a significant improvement from last year.

2020-21
Greer 371-429 in 234 minutes (63.5 - 73.4 over 40 minutes)
Greer with Buie 84-76 in 53 minutes (63.6 - 57.5 over 40 minutes)
Greer w/out Buie 287-353 in 181 minutes (63.5 - 78.0 over 40 minutes)
Greer, Buie, not Audige 74-60 in 46 minutes (64.3 - 52.2 over 40 minutes)

2021-22
Greer 743-717 in 421 minutes (70.6 - 68.1 over 40 minutes)
Greer with Buie 421-381 in 224 minutes (75.3 - 68.2 over 40 minutes)
Greer w/out Buie 322-336 in 197 minutes (65.2 - 68.1 over 40 minutes)
Greer, Buie, not Audige 307-251 in 159 minutes (77.1 - 63.1 over 40 minutes)

As a team this season, we have played to a 68.0 - 70.1 pace.
So Greer as backup point guard is not good, but not a disaster.
I see Barnhizer as a small forward, but thats TBD.

The ideal lineup would be:
Boo Buie
Boo Berry
Baba Booey
Ba Ba Ba Ba Barbara Ann
Ryan Young
