We had some excellent performances tonight. Luke was great, Grayson, Brandon...but this is Marshall's gameball.

I voted Marshall, as did most of you. He was aggressive and finally decided to just dunk the ball. He held us together when Grayson and Matt went out and then finished it.

But, a shout out to Luke. He was just as important. He played with confidence and didn't take 1 three!! He found us buckets when we needed it.

Marshall with the, dare I say, Laettner-esque game. 7-7 from the field, 4-4 from the line.

He had a game last year where he went 6-6 and all were dunks. I don't think if that's ever happened before

Is it a sign that we're taking Grayson and Brandon for granted a bit that neither of them has a single vote yet, or are we still a bit eager to see options to compensate for Amile's absence?

I went with Marshall, too. Thomas outplayed him, of course, but he was very opportunistic when Thomas was out, and he had a lot to do with limiting his PT in the 2nd half.

Matt had a bad game. I still rank him ahead of Luke for overall reliability, but Luke has surpassed him in my book as far as sheer offensive explosiveness. This is how we build an identity as a team!

I would love to see MP3 have another game like this and set a new career high in points and get at least one 20 point game before the season ends

Just when I wondered what Marshall was accomplishing on the floor he came alive. Wow did he come alive and played flawless ball. We Dukies are so fortunate that Mr and Mrs Plum got together and had three little plum sons that attended Duke.

What a great effort by everyone, but just have to go with Marshall. Not just his scoring, but his leadership really came at the right time. Such a great kid and really deserving. This has to be great for his confidence, so hopefully he will want more of this as the season goes on! He could really take this team to a different level.
Go Duke!!

Wake had momentum at halftime. Marshall came out and in the first 2 1/2 minutes scored 4 points - a slam and 2-2 on free throws. He had a manly rebound and a tip out to his team for another rebound. He affected balls all over the place inside.

We got more than expected from Marshall this game and that was why he was on top. I look at more than stats (personally) to make my judgment, and in my judgment he was the man.

Now I know you were not really questioning why Marshall - just commenting that we are getting used to Grayson and Brandon a bit. That is true - and they will win many more gameballs with their "usual" performance.

Luke, his loose ball/steal with lay in early in second half was the play of the game. That play sapped WF's energy at time when they still felt like they had a game they could win. Luke's floor game was better than his scoring outburst, numerous subtle defensive plays and rebounds...with sparse time, over all nobody was more productive with the time given.

I can't vote Marshall because his Defense was that bad in the first half and parts of the second as well. I went with Grayson because he hit so many big shots and played solid D. Ingram was my second choice, and kennard 3rd but Kennard played some real poor D as well at times.

Marshall had probably his best game in a Duke uniform, that gets my vote.

Marshall on the floor gets my vote. K gets a ton of credit in this one for the masterful 2nd half game plan we drew up when both Matty and Grayson got their 4th's within moments of each other.

I don't know...
I think you could make the case that Andre Iguodala was the NBA Finals MVP last season not because he was actually the best, but because he kept Lebron from winning the series single-handedly. In that sense, Marshall "beat the spread" vs Thomas.

Correct. I voted for Marshall here, too. I'm just speculating on the psychology of our votes. Like, by March we're not going to be looking for Chase to emerge, for example. He'll have already done that or not by then. At this point in the season, though, we're more excited about Marshall and Luke showing something than if Brandon went for 50.

It's like that every year, really, at least early on: there are guys who go for 25 points often enough that another guy's career high in the teens overshadows it.

I don't think you can make a case that Iguodola was the finals MVP but you could make a case that he got them over the hump. Igoudola last year was a 6th man award type player even though he started some vs cavs. Marshall beating the spread vs Thomas wasn't created by Marshall. He didn't create any of his own shots or get great offensive rebounds and put backs. They were from awesome drives and dishes by the guards. Now you still have to finish, and he did a darn good job of finishing on offense. Remember Wake out rebounded us by about 10, and they had about 20 offensive rebounds and that's with marshall in almost the entire game.

I will say Marshall hitting all 4 of his FTs was a big confidence boost and big dunks even though equal 2 points like a weak layup give an energy boost to the team and silence the crowd. I'll give him that.

Yes Marshall played better than he had been recently specifically on offense. But his defense last night I think was his worst of the year possibly.

As I stated in another post. I'm looking at things I think it will take for Duke to be a title contender, and that's post D starting with Marshall.

I'm very surprised most are giving it to Marshall because of this reason.
