I never met a smart kid who wasn’t good at multiple things. It’s just that these kids spend crazy hours working on their spelling, which is, in the whole scheme of things nowadays, not especially important. It’s like practicing to be the best at shooting free throws, without working on the rest of your basketball game. Even though I have a PhD in mathematics my biggest regret is that I didn’t spend more time working on my math when I was a kid. (I spent my time on literature.) Edit: I didn’t take Calculus in high school even though it was offered. Most every math PhD took calculus in high school.
