On Dec. 29, 1990, Rick Pitino’s Cats defeated Louisville 93-85 in Freedom Hall to pick up his first win in the rivalry. (Cards handed Pitino his only home loss in 1989-90).

On Dec. 14, 2024, Mark Pope’s Cats defeated Louisville 93-85 in Rupp Arena to pick up his first win in the rivalry.

Interesting coincidence or omen?

The second the game was over I pointed that out to my wife. We were at that game in Dec 1990.

Let’s hope so! I love the stat anyway. I feel like Pope can be really special with the right players. He’s way ahead where I thought we would be this year. He certainly coaches well enough most nights to win big. We know how smart he is and he played under one of the best to ever do it.
