Only elite coaches could assemble a roster like this in mid-April, make in-game adjustments while down 2 PGs and have two Tournament resume wins like DOOK and Gonzaga in early December.

Same, and I wasn’t being negative about it, but without our starting point guard a comeback like that just didn’t seem realistic. It was, but just barely. We had to put in a monumental effort to push it to overtime. I honestly just expected us to get it down to single digits, and I would have been proud of the team if that’s what had happened.
I will give OP credit that we play an awful first half, but the adjustments are something else. If we can get to a point where the halftime adjustments help us extend leads versus erase deficits, we'll be golden.

Let's ride with this guy. Something strange and special is brewing. This guy can flat, I mean flatout coach! There is absolutely no doubt. That disguise in the corner on defense with carr slow to react. Was a pitino marquee defensive technique. That helped ky comeback that night in lsu. I recognized it immediately.
This team has a lot of heart! Popes in game adjustments are so dang impressive.

I'm not savvy enough to recognize what you mean. If you get a moment during a rewatch, could you provide an in-game time or two so the board and I can check it out? I'd love to learn more about the intricacies of Pope's coaching. Even just a rough estimate. I'll watch through this win a few times.

When that Gonzaga player went up and dunked it. From the baseline. Late in the game. Carr missed the ball screen they ran. So he was disguised, pretty sure design. McCarty picked lsu off several times that night. Doing the same exact thing. We got a modern offense and old school defense. Imo. And that's exactly what we need.
Go to 2:19 in regulation. And watch carr only until the end of overtime. And watch all that scheme with Carr. Although he wasnt able to get a steal, it seriously was the defense pressure that we wilI get a custom to again. It rattled Ike, just enough to holdon. Pope has got the goods. Sec is a gauntlet! Be prepared cat fans. He only got so much to work with. Make the tournament, the first big goal!

Had to miss this game and I'm so missed. (Kid didn't sleep well, I was wiped and I will fully admit that without Butler, I figured there was little chance of winning so I chose sleep).
But seeing as we had no Butler, and we made that come back, against a 2nd top10 team before January.. that's coaching. I see a lot of various players getting mentioned as MVPs, and I don't want to take that away from them at all. But for me, it's Pope.
I think this guy might be a top5 coach. And I think he could go up further in ranking by year end.

Pope is so much better than Cow it's not even funny.
I worked on a plumbing issue at the house for 3 hours along with having to take my grandma on a bunch of chores. Even though I took a nap, I was exhausted and went to bed at 9:30..boy was I shocked to see the score at 2:30am when I had to pee. Barely fell back to sleep from the excitement. Watched the highlights already. Love Pope

Might upset many but it’s just what I’m seeing. Duke and Gonzaga both appear to have better players BUT that should be expected. This is Mark Pope’s first year and he had to quickly assemble this team with a short notice and he did a heck of a job doing it!
My point being, can y’all imagine when he’s able to get exactly who he wants and actually has time to scout the whole playing field of recruiting?
Here’s to hoping we keep getting better and better and become prepared to make a run in March. Mark Pope deserves all the credit in the world and the sky will be the limit in his time here!

It’s so refreshing to see actual coahcing on the sideline instead of screaming “go” like that is going to do anything. Putting Oweh on the nembahrd or however he spells was gold. I did wonder why we didn’t start that route but JR definitely needs to be the backup pg if Kerr is out some time. The entire staff needs to be commended for what they’ve done already and it’s not Christmas yet.
I watched some of Gonzaga’s post game and to me it looked like Few was blaming missed shots on their part and not giving much credit to the defensive changes. Said they missed shots they normally hit and that 1/3/1 oh we do that same thing from time to time. Just seemed dismissive of our Team.
Crazy man. I'm gonna try and watch it today. But from everything i can tell, it's one of our biggest wins in years. And I really think this shows us that Pope is the real deal. That's what excites me most. He might be a Pitino/Hurley type with his coaching ability.. Just minus the personal baggage of each lol.
As much as we rightfully dogged Cal, we need to recognize and celebrate this masterpiece from Pope.
From 1930 to today, Kentucky has only had 2 coaches as Brilliant with X’s and O’s, adjustments, and one step ahead of everyone else…Coach Rupp and Rick Pitino…Those are the only two that could have won last night.
