Worse than….that woman

He speaks like someone completely in over their head. There’s no other way to describe this. It sucks. He’s one of our own.

But he never should’ve been placed in this situation when he wouldn’t have even sniffed the job had he not been a former player. Mitch hiring him was such a cruel act made purely out of laziness and moral grandstanding.

He looks so defeated and it sucks. He seems like a super nice guy with a big heart but that won’t get it done at UK. You have to have some arrogance about you but also be gracious. Stick to your philosophy on offense and defense, recruit to your style too.
Pope is here and after one season he recruits for defense and trashes what got him here

Look man he played here in Kentucky and he takes these losses twice as hard as a normal coach. We were foolish for hiring a former player because it's too hard on them. They want to do well and they want to win and when they don't and they lose and they lose bad it's double hard on them.

Let him finish out this year then cut him loose if they lose 10 games again.
If not this is going to take a toll on Mark Pope and change him in his personality..

I don’t understand how Pope played under Pitino and readily admits that Pitino changed the trajectory of his entire life, but is like 180 polar opposite of him. I was hoping we’d get some Pitino qualities.

It’s sad. What I see is a guy who has no idea what do to. He seems totally lost and knows his team won’t respond to him.
Honestly, I wonder if he even WANTS to be the coach here anymore ... ??? He seems to have lost his enthusiasm for the job. I hope that's not the case ...

The UK basketball coach has to be bigger than the players. Rupp was, Hall was, Tubby was, Pitino was, Cal was. BCG and Pope are not. I know it is a different era but if these kids are going to get paid millions they need to sign contracts holding them accountable for practice behavior and job performance.

I know that everyone is on the bash Mark Pope train right now, but I think there are a lot of factors here that Pope can't control. NIL has changed everything. These players are now making millions, no matter what they do. They can sit on the bench and draw millions, they can ignore the coach and still draw millions. The scope of "college basketball" has changed and in a bad way.

But to be fair, that is something all the Coaches are dealing with. That is part of being a coach now. It is like recruiting, x's and o's, dealing with the fans, dealing with the media, managing your budget and now they have added dealing with the spoiled players.

I don't disagree with that at all, but I think there's a learning curve involved for some coaches and how to approach these things. I hope Mark figures it out soon.

It doesn’t matter. Bring a coach who already knows. Nate oates is the guy made for Kentucky: Barney missed the mark as if anyone is surprised. The man doesn’t care about the fans and whether we win or not.

Nate Oates would not come to Kentucky, and that's fine. Give Pope a chance. If this season doesn't get better; then it will be fair to complain.

Then why did UL and Mich St play so hard? They all got paid too. Why are dUKe's highly paid players out there competing? If all coaches are dealing with this then why are we the worst at it?

Nate Oats has a similar trajectory, as Pitino before UK hired him.

I agree but you have to have someone who can reel that **** in before it starts, guys fighting in the locker room and in the huddle screams that he’s already lost some of the team which is why there’s no chemistry.

They had 13 turnovers and still beat us by 17 points. That's bizarre, when you think about it.
Cats had 19 defensive rebounds. That's not many at all. MSU basically made a shot, offensive rebounded until they made a shot, or they turned it over. For comparison the Cats had 29+ rebounds in all other games. They are just soft and can't get stops.

I think he has to figure out what to do and actually do it. He can't let himself be held hostage and he's going to have to make some moves that are going to upset some people. I think he needs to be given the chance to make changes, but if he can't get things turned around by season's end; there has to be some changes.

He hasn't lost his enthusiasm for the job, he's frustrated with the results, and frustrated with his more athletically gifted players than last year not being able to mentally process his message.
