I think he fits Grinch's defensive player profile. I think he will be at the BBQ. Maybe we get a new set of eyes after this weekend.

We seem to be hitting it out of the park with DEs but where are the DTs?

DTs won't be coming unless we start scheming for them to be playmakers. Our defense relies on the DTs to simply be line clogs. What's the enjoyment and recognition in that? We're setup for DEs and LBs to make plays.... and they haven't.

Absolutely true. See Tommie Harris, GK McCoy, etc.. Although their greatness was appropriately recognized, their stats (the ones we pedestrians pay attention to) were not eye-popping. But they occupied two or three blockers every play to free up the edge and 2nd level guys to make plays.

I grew up in Kirkwood and our serious HS rival was Webster. In all the battles I have seen...only 3 players stood out on either team. This guy, Jeremy Maclin, and Alvin Miller. He will be a force down the line.

Grinch's scheme is a one-gap penetrate scheme totally opposite of what we've been doing with our DL in the recent past. Some of the DE recruits will grow into DT's.

I think it would go a long way in future recruiting for Gallimore to have a big year in Grinch's scheme.

I've been screaming for the last few years about how cowardly we played/coached as a whole defensively, but it was just as evident up front with our patty cake bs as it was with our 10+ yard coverage. I don't believe we are as devoid of talent as some. Just need to let them play and do so aggressively.

New defense is different Gallimore is going to be a penetrator not a clogger......

It takes a while to get the DTs breaking down your door, but after Gallimore is #1 pick in the draft , they will come.....

Grinch's Washington State defenses yielded an average of 27 points per game from 2015-2017.
As a co-DC, his Ohio State defense in 2018 yielded 26 points per game.
While this looks good compared to OU's defenses in recent years, it's far removed by the defensive superiority of Alabama and Clemson, two teams who look to own and operate college football for a while.
Again, until OU addresses playing defensive football as much as its arena football offense, the Sooners will continue to paint themselves into a corner when the post season playoffs arrive.

Wash State was putting up 33 pts/game during those years under a Mike Leach quickstrike offense. That puts a lot of stress on a defense.
Grinch left OSU, because he wasn't really a Co-DC. He wasn't calling defenses.
I'm optimistic.
