That is a big time, talented offensive line fellas, the kind you need to win in the sec. That caliber of a line alone wins us at least 2 more games this year. Give this staff time, and give the team support.

I wouldn't write off Ramsey Meyers yet - I think he is pretty solid at the guard spot and will be a senior in 2017
Could we, at that point, have a good enough roster to RS a 5* recruit? I doubt it but even thinking along those lines shows us that the program is going in the right direction recruiting wise.

I doubt we'll have the depth to redshirt him. A line like that is a program changer. So many woes on offense can be cured by an elite offensive line. Suddenly the holes get larger, so your running game looks better. The pass protection is much better, so your quarterback looks better. It just solves so many offensive issues.

I believe wholeheartedly in the redshirt. We do not get a lot of big time recruits. We're doing better at recruiting, but it still isn't top half of the SEC. In order to compete we have to get these kids into our system and redshirt them and put together experienced football teams. We can go for the win right now mentality, but I think if we want to be consistently competitive we need to find a way to redshirt most of our players and then when they are juniors and seniors we'll be much more competitive. Great OP, and I have been speculating on this OL for quite a while, and am awed by that possibility, truly an amazing upgrade. And, as one poster pointed out, we would still have several starters from the current team available for depth, some should be very good from added experience alone by then. And with our Remington Candidate as a senior leader (imagine that, a Joker recruit and only rated a 5.4 coming in) next year we could be much improved just by next year. And if we do get a five star Freshman in 17 he probably would play, (I think Young plays next year) very few five stars redshirt, (although Florida did have a 6' 5" 330# FIFTH YEAR five star playing against our 265# walkon Joker's first year) and rightly so, Warford was only a 5.6 and to redshirt him would have been a huge mistake.

One "correction" I would make to the OPs thread, which I have pushed a lot, the numerical ratings for Rivals are much more definitive than the star ratings, (and should be used whenever available, IMO) AA could be a 5.5 and still be a three star, but he is a very near four star (and should have been one from all indications), and Leavitt is not just a four star, but a 5.9 four star. Also Young is already a 6.0, one step from a five star.

So, without revised rankings (which should be a definite possibility) we could start a 5.7, 5.8, 5.9, 6.0, and 6.1 OL as soon as 17.

By the way, by the numbers alone (doesn't mean they would be better) that OL would rate higher than the much ballyhooed Bama starters on the OL that has had a huge influence in Bama playing for the NC coming up shortly------and they are favored in large part because of that OL.

Their Heisman winner didn't do it by himself.

Willis projects as a tackle all the way...not a guard. You don't get to be a top 15 recruit nationally at guard. He'll play tackle in college unless he's playing alongside some unearthly good set of tackles once he gets to college.

I'm not sure about Gran's preferences but we rotated some of the lineman last year so they may settle on a 7 or 8 man rotation. Where do we put this 5 star? Nice problem to have for sure :)

And switch to the inside from tackle to guard?
[roll]
The real question is why not try Chris Westry at LG instead? Let Wills have a full camp to try and convert to the boundary corner... Lots of guys don't seem to realize there are 3 distinct positions on the OL, much less 5.

Everything I've read indicates he will move inside in college, but I could be wrong, I have been many many times in my life. If we get him, and he does play tackle, we will have one hell of a tackle rotation. Young, Leavitt, Wills, when have we ever had linemen of that caliber.

Now Wills has said that he prefers OT but he's not adverse to playing anywhere along the line. My guess is that the staff will give him a shot at OT first and if he succeeds great but if not he can slide inside as he is projected.

How crazy is it that we had one of the worst lines in the country this year, and in 2 short years we could have one of the absolute best units?

Toth will be gone, and we dont have a center on the roster that will beat out jackson as a sophomore. And young and wills are better RIGHT NOW then anyone on our roster besides toth.

Here are some guys that started last year as true or redshirt freshmen:

Conrad, Big George, Edwards, Ware, Westry, Baity, Barker.

And none of these guys were truly elite prospects, though Westry and Conrad probably should have been considered that, and possibly some of the other guys as well.

Young and Wills are elite prospects, and Jackson maybe ought to be ranked as such also. These guys will play when they're ready.

The other beautiful thing to consider about that line up is that 4 of them would be back in 2018 and 3 of them in 2019 baring early entry from Young. Awesome to think about!

Your point about that line being ranked higher than BAMA'S current line makes sense considering 4 of them had/have Bama offers...

No. Top talent, yes, but not top line - yet. Maybe in 3 years, possibly 4.
