I follow the Huskers on this site and HuskerMax. With spring practice ramping up, it seems there are less posts than previous years. Anyone have any traffic stats to these sites? I'm just curious.

It does seem like posts stay at the top of the thread list for eons. I imagine the fan base is a bit bored and disillusioned. As the different flavors of koolaid are starting to taste the same

Encouraged by Buford saying that Thompson is a professional and is always in the building watching film. Need a QB that watches a ton of film if we are going to be good again

While only a nugget, it backs up what Casey said of himself in an earlier interview. He implied he doesn’t try to have too much social life because football is his full- time hobby, and he’s dialed into his goal of making the NFL.

In today’s game, unless you’re a freak talent, it really does take an incredible amount of dedication to keep up.

Hopefully, this preparation translates to the field once the whistle blows starting week 1.

Defensive linemen are getting a lot of reps, which bodes well for NU whether it gets additional DL help from the Portal or not. Fish looks like he has enough kids to find another corner and safety. NU is not going to replace a player like Jojo, but maybe be able to replace the things he could do with an aggregate of Buddha, Gifford and Kolarevic. Wright is an exceptionally gifted athlete who has been plagued with bad luck. He could end up being the guy if he has a solid spring. It would be great if Chin could land a kid who has rush the passer at the top of his resume.

I'd be surprised if we land Mathis from TCU...I think the twins from N Texas are still a strong option. Rogers being hurt this spring would make the staff feel better if we got two more DEs to add. Robinson would be the only other one with actual PT...moving Nelson down helps.

Weaver (6-8/320) looks like he was recruited to be a big DE in a 3-4. To compare, Jared Crick was listed at 6-6/285 when he played at NU. Hutmacher (6-4/325) and Black (6-3/315) are 3-4 NTs. Buckley is 6-5/290 and he compares to Rogers in terms of size and weight. There is plenty of size on NU's roster for the DL, but experience is an issue. Black and Polar Bear will be third year players, Buckley and Weaver will be in their second year. So playing the spring with a short DL roster is valuable for them in terms of practice reps. A couple of these guys will be playing in the fall, probably Nash and Buckley.
Is Newsom out of the picture?

Well in the literal practice pics posted by HuskerOnline today, Newsom was right in the thick of things.
Whether that makes its way into the playing time picture remains to be seen.

Side note: speaking of those practice pics that tell us very little other than who’s out there and sometimes how they look physically, there was a real nice pic of Yant getting super low while making a strong lateral cut.
Then there’s a pic of Stepp giving us his best Heisman pose.

The neighbor lady across the street from me sat next to him on a flight to Omaha. Said he was already studying his playbook. She also said he talked her ear off, which seemed ironic since I could definitely see it the other way around. But he definitely seems full throttle!

I think we will be fine in replacing Jojo. He was a damn good player with a lot of talent. Tough too. I loved the kid. And I hope he gets drafted and makes a huge splash in the NFL. But he wasn't an All American and in my mind seemed better to all of us just because he was our best player on defense. This is true of all fan bases and teams where they take their best player on offense or defense and then turn them into consensus All Americans even though in terms of real talent, they are not. And then the various preseason prognostication magazines come out and they all say things like "team "X" will really miss player "Y". And maybe they really will. But unless that player was of Tommie Frazier or Grant Wistrom levels of quality, more than likely, if you have recruited and coached well, he not only can be replaced just fine, but will be. I am far more worried about our defensive line. I am more worried about replacing Daniels and Stille than I am replacing Jojo.

Jojo wasn’t great at anything (although he has a real nose for the RB on a run blitz), but he was good at multiple things. Sort of like Eric Hagg, who had the benefit of being on great defenses.
