That's one of the counties I worked in up until very recently. There are a lot of damn good people there. Hate it for Springfield, Perryville, and the other communities in the area. Thankfully, it was "just" an EF1. Just unfortunate that anyone lost their lives. Lots of empty space out that way. The odds of anyone being in its path are astronomical.
Im biased, but as you said there are a lot of good people there, I live in Virginia now, but 2 of my brothers still live there, I'm glad to call it home, couldn't imagine anywhere else I would be proud to call my hometown.
A complete and utter miracle that the death toll was not 10-15 times the actual number of fatalities. More than 100 homes completely obliterated by an EF4 tornado with estimated wind speeds of 180 mph that struck in the middle of the night. No photo or video can accurately depict the devastation.

We need a break from all these low pressure systems that keep coming this way. It's been a wild Spring.
It’s been weird that’s for sure. I had my pool opened up the first week of May and the water has been too cold to enjoy it. It’s been an unusually cold spring. I haven’t even been able to cut any hay yet and I just got my corn planted Saturday. The ground is really saturated.
My grandparents lived in Springfield and my mom, aunts and an uncle were raised there. I spent a decent amount of time in my youth there. Their home was right next to St.Catherine College. My grandpa owned a junkyard near their house, within a 10 minute bike ride. My brothers and I would spend lots of time breaking already broken things. If there was an intact windshield in that junkyard we would sure as hell remedy that. Prayers for those there.
Lot of good memories in that area. I played golf at st Catherine in early 2000. Coming from a small town myself, it was just another reason to prolong getting out in the real world. Met so many great people and that town has some things that make your hair stand . Is the donkey tree still standing?

Donkey tree? Unaware about that and my grandparents moved to Lexington probably around ’86.
When I think of Springfield, I am reminded of Jimmy Hamilton. Springfield was his base of operations for decades when he was a very prominent gas, oil and coal businessman with extensive holdings in southeastern Kentucky. He was also a big time booster of UK basketball and a very close friend of former coach Eddie Sutton. Hamilton passed away in 2023.
