I certainly get the idea that the buck always ends with the coach, fair or not, but just not going to let the athletes completely off the hook for all uninspired performances. Sometimes it really is on them too.

I am fine with saying top 3 along with the finishes I listed. If they barely miss third and still have the finishes I listed, I am not going to come on here and scream failure. But, I am happy to treat it the same way I said I would if Iowa finishes just short of the AA/Finalist threshold.
Notice, for all the vitriol and “goal post moving” comments, I am the ONLY one here actually putting myself out there. The rest are all whining and complaining but I don’t see them locking in ANYTHING for themselves. That is because it is easier to just complain and snipe from cover!

If this is part of some grand plan, it's failing miserably IMO. The guys that typically make an NCAA podium are guys that wrestle well throughout the year, and TRY to win every match they wrestle in. Well, uummm, aahhh, yeah.
Our seeds in the Big Ten Tournament and subsequently NCAA's are dropping like flies at multiple weights. If you like watching Iowa in the consi's early in a tournament, this is your year!
I would be STUNNED if this team isn't on a record pace for offensive futility in a season. The lack of takedowns is astounding, and what might be more astounding is the lack of shots taken to actually get one. It's aaahhh, uumm, hard to watch.
But somehow in March that's going to change? Color me skeptical.
Unfortunately I'll be tuned into most of it, and hope to see some actual Iowa Wrestling. At the current rate, I just hope my TV's survive it (Note to self: when Bailey and Williams wrestle, go do dishes, wash the car, scoop snow even if there isn't any, etc. Hell, I might buy one of those machines that makes snow, just to be sure.......)

And the COVID year, the year after when we officially were the best team and the year PSU punted and we pissed it away to OSU were pretty much the only years we were sniffing titles after 2010.

Iowa's problem is that they don't have Cael Sanderson. Ok St hired Taylor to take the best shot at winning , who knows when the next Gable/Cael comes around.
And who knows if Taylor is/will be Sanderson level , but waiting until you're sure means another team snatched up the next great one.
