Is Nebraska in shambles?
Was Florida when Muschamp got fired? McElwain?
Michigan/Brady Hoke?

I would argue that none of them were left in shambles, at least, long lasting.
All underperformed and set up the next coach nicely, ala Callahan.

We still have the infrastructure here, the tradition, the fans. All we need is the right coaches and we can be back on track in the next few years. Easier said than done, but we can do it, just need the right folks running the ship.
I agree and half of that is the players, which I feel pretty confident in once they get good coaches.

Hardly in shambles. There are still quite a few weapons on offense if the new coach can hold on to them. Defense needs to be rebuilt, but there are some guys who could be the core of a decent defense with better coaching.

Nebraska has been recruiting #25 ranked recruiting classes, and with decent coaching could be a 9-4, #25 ranked team almost overnight. That's hardly in shambles.

I was just asking because I ran into a conversation where someone thought our program was in shambles, due to the last three years. I just didn't see it. Riley just fell flat on his face due to his poor decisions in hindsight, like a lot of coaches do. I would argue that the program is in a much healthier position than it has been in quite a while, due to the new Admin and clean slate.

Penn St. Was in shambles. In a million years I'll never understand why they are where they are after that.

Great coaching, and in some ways, a sense of unity because of what happened there. In some ways, I think the whole country attacking them for overlooking something so horrible happening right under their roof, was successfully used as motivation to prove everybody wrong. "Us against the world," is a common sports slogan, but in this case I think it was actually right.

Its not great ..Is Frost going the Juco Terry Wilson route for a qb to install his offense or will he work around what we currently have...The oline is a mess so the quicker we have a guy back there that can move the better...With the schedule the way it is next year its gonna be a rough year either way

There is some to work with, but if I read people citing recruiting ranks again I think I’ll puke. Who on our defense would even start on the Iowa def we saw yesterday, or Wisky, Evnen Minnesota’s D.

Bill O'Brien and tradition. Even though their scholarships were severely limited he landed some excellent talent with his NFL cred. Then his successor made a great sales pitch to the guys carrying them right now.

Pretty close depth-wise. We're sorely lacking elite athletiicism across the board. And many of the "athletes we have don't seem to be 'football' athletes.

Recruiting hotbed.. giant stadium.. ability to identify coaches who in turn can identify players.. Apples to oranges comparison. Franklin could win 7 per year recruiting only PA.. (try that in Nebraska) throw in DC and Jersey.. You might be Wisconsin if things go right, but you won't be Penn State or OSU.. apples to oranges. Nebraska dominated football when it was a diff game... now greater scholly and rost limits.. every team out there has nice faclities.

My follow up question is...how do they recruit to a school that, at the time of signing, was banned from bowls for what will be their entire career? Was accused of the worst possible crime in college sports history?

We seemingly do everything right and can't fill a class. Under those circumstances, they recruit lights out?

Quite simple:

They have millions and millions of people that live within 5 hours or less of campus--massive "local" recruiting in other words.

Not near as difficult to pull this off as it would be a place like Nebraska.

I'm just nervous about our OL... The rest of the team should be fine

I actually think the OL can be turned around fairly quickly. They're just so poorly coached, but there's some talent there.

Because they were smart enough to hire a winning coach. I don't understand why programs who are facing adversity hire a nice guy coach to "fix the program's image." That usually ends up doing far more damage than the original sanctions they may have. Look at what happened after Arkansas fired Petrino, Miami the last decade, look how fast Baylor is back to their old ways, Missouri after getting rid of Pinkel, Kansas getting rid of Mangino, etc.

It only takes a couple of years when you have infrastructure in place (fans, facilities, football culture, boosters, etc). 2-3 good recruiting classes and you are there. For a program that should have received the death penalty and will forever be known as pedophile U, they should count their lucky stars every day.
