Do you understand how lines and Vegas works? You have 2 million in bets on Louisville and only 400k on UK you must even it out. So you shift the line to the point where the money is as close to even on both sides as possible. Then you win regardless because of the juice. It’s really not complicated at all.

A 3.5 pt line move is unheard of in my experience. Something fishy going down or maybe it's just the odor card fans emit.
Today’s game Wake forest and Michigan moved 4 points and Long Island and Airforce moved 3. That’s two examples out of the first 10 games today. This isn’t rare or unheard of unless you are brand new to betting.

I agree the line moving that much for seemingly no reason makes no sense. I'd definitely put a wager on UK at 6.5 if u gambled.

KenPom prediction is 1pt. Lines typically follow that. So 6.5….seems odd. I’m not touching this game.

Today’s games alone there are 10 games the line moved by 3pts or more. So no, not rare at all. Especially early in the season when metrics are all over the place. The other top 25 matchup Illinois vs TT moved the same as ours.

I haven't been a bettor since it became legal so I was speaking of what it was like before you could bet from home other than calling a bookie. Back in the day Vegas would have adjusted the line in half point increments to try and keep the betting balanced which is always the house's goal. Going from 3.5 to 6.5 in practically no time will make it hard to balance the bets. Most books in that case would have to lay off their imbalances. At least that's the way it use to work.

I bet for 50 years and a line doubling out of the blue is very unusual.

I've never bet and know little about it. But could it be Vegas pushed it up to intice some money coming in on the Cats? Probably not but I did wonder.

I agree that something is a bit off here.

I mean 6.5 means they would be favored on a neutral court vs us by 3.5.

Maybe but both the human polls and the computers feel we are better and sometimes more than just a little bit.

Yes , that’s exactly how it works. 10 other games moved the same amount or more. Nothing to see here at all.

Yep.
The question is........why?

Why is the betting public differing significantly from the general consensus here.
Amateur bettors don’t even know what Kenyon is. Have you looked at espn BPI predictor? 73/27 in favor of UL. Other similar algorithms predicting the same odds. This is where the money is coming in from.

Nah, this is not normal. It’s not just the movement that is off, you have to look at the fact that UK, by every metric, is the better team and would be favored on a neutral court.
This line started out +3 to +3.5, which was already very odd, but then it went up as high as +6.5, that's crazy.
Sure, sometimes lines move, but there is usually an injury, or something along those lines, that causes bettors to make the line move that far.

Probably don't use Kenpom but they sure look at the polls. And Kenpom usually does fall in line with Vegas.

The fact this thread is even made suggests that most people feel it's a bit "off".

The .001% of fans who post to message boards is not the “peoples feeling” your every day joe who places bets is not the people posting here. I don’t understand why it’s so hard for people to understand the concept of a line moving. Michigans line moved 4 points, Texas Techs 3 points and some as many as 4.5 points all for today’s games only. This isn’t something is off. You get 3 points for being the home team. That was the initial line basically, too much money came in on UL so Vegas moved it, money kept coming in so they moved it again. They have to move it until it evens out, this isn’t rocket science.

The moneyline is a bet on the winner, without regard for the points given by odds makers, either way. Just a bet on who wins the game. Points are a bet against vegas' experts and betters' claim that a team will win/lose by x amount of points. Vegas takes bets on just about every scenario. Point's are probably the safer bet, if there is such a thing but pays less to you for being correct. The moneyline is betting on the winner, straight up, regardless of the points they give.

$500 is a pretty big sum to me. Just be willing to lose whatever you bet. Horse's are probably safer! Lol!
