Not a good matchup for us

They’re built just like Vanderbilt

We don’t defend guards well

Providence is 7-8 in their last 15 games. We will win by 10+ points.

They have 5 guys that average double digits

How are we going to defend their guards. We switch everything. They will keep switching until they get the matchup they want

We have 3 guys that can’t stay in front of their man

Oscar is going to have to be Oscar of last year.

Their defense is actually worse than UK’s defense. It may be a 95-92 type score.
Unfortunately, UK just doesn't guard the three. They played Vandy's guards and forwards a yard in from the three point line. Vandy's guys were in UK's jock whenever a Cat got the ball outside the line. Samething both games. Vandy was happy to take those shots all day long.

You can bet the house Providence will shoot threes till their arms fall off.

If we can't beat Providence then we need to be at home watching on TV anyway. Lace 'em up and play ball.
This is my thought as well. We surely can't be afraid of Providence if we have any chance to do anything in this tournament. Just gotta take it to them and win. If the team loses this one, Cal may not survive it, which will make many here happy. If they win, the next opponent will be much tougher. One game at a time, just win.

I've been done with this team like 4 different times this season and I'm there again. Then they suck me in again. I have zero expectations for this group at this point. I'm expecting a loss pretty much every time out. I'm not stressing over it anymore.

I agree. This is a horrible match-up for us. They starting 5 also shoot the 3 pretty good and they put up big numbers on offense. Unless we are having a strong shooting night, we are very likely going to get beat.
I don't get why some keep saying that put up big numbers on offense. Their last 15 games they have only scored 80+ 5 times and 2 games were OT and double OT. The last 2 they scored 62 and 58.

There's no reason any rational fan should be confident with Cal as the coach. We lost to St. Peter's last year ffs. I could go on and on. I'd feel more confident if were playing a better seed, then maybe they'd have some fight in them.

Their guards aren't as big or talented as Vandy. Vandy also has real depth, something Providence doesn't have. Saying they are built just like Vandy is a terribly superficial take.

The single biggest difference is Vandy was playing their best ball of the year while Providence isn't playing well at all and peaked a long time ago.

I can live with a Sweet 16 and have Cal make his last stand with that #1 class next year. Another 1st round exit and I think clearly it all needs to come to an end. Personally I'd keep Cal as long as he wanted to coach here but the negativity is just becoming too overwhelming at this point and no UK tournament wins since 2019 is unthinkable.

We should beat Providence.

But, we will likely have issues. From Ben Roberts in the LHL today:

Providence is the 16 in offense.
UK has played seven games against opponents ranked in the top 25 in KenPom offensive efficiency. The Cats have a 1-6 record in those games

This team seems to be all or nothing- if they come out making shots, they'll likely be playing good defense, too. If they get frustrated, they're likely to be lax on D. If they think they will win, they may lose. If it seems a very difficult task, they'll likely play their best and win. But who can predict it with this group?

Likely slower-paced rock fight....60-58ish. Key to me is if Toppin is tough and engaged. Otherwise Hopkins will go through his chest.

I feel like we are obviously better and should win but I’m not confident I’m getting flashbacks from last season. If this game is close in the 2nd half especially at about the 10 min mark I’ll be panicking 😂 ptsd

The Cats will beat providence easily. They'll be looking ahead to Kansas State.
If the Cats are looking ahead to Kansas State they will not beat Providence easily! One game at a time! Or are you saying Providence is looking ahead?

We don't guard the three because we can't guard the drive. So something has to give, and we let up on the three to try and hedge the lane (which still fails).

Seems stupid, really. We need to be guarding the three and be willing to give up the two, not the other way around.

Need more context here, I think.

Of those 7 teams:

Date of the game?
What was their def eff KenPom?

Pretty simple: UK is better than Providence and should win, but anything goes with a washed up Calipari on the sidelines, UK's injury-plagued roster, and the team's inability to maintain momentum. And, since it's March, Calipari will have them tightly wound and fearful to go to the FT line.
