Obviously score more points, but beyond that:
1) Win turnover battle.
2) Rush for more than 150 yards.
3) Avoid injuries to key players.

What are the other keys to the game?

Shutting down their passing game.
By putting consistent pressure on the Purdue QB and making him take some good hits, making him uncomfortable and throw before he has been doing in practice. Diaz has a reputation for being aggressive which I believe will include some man coverage as well as aggressive coverage of the short routes that QB's that throw a lot like to rely on.

A Purdue fan in one of the threads was talking up the Purdue OL as being experienced and cohesive. We need to spread out their OL and blitz from different angles which I have heard Diaz likes to do.

I hope Clifford runs some as it discourages a defense on the plays that the defense believes they have won. I'd also like to see some dump offs to Singleton or the other RB's late in the plays where Clifford is considering running. Great to take a few shots down field but I like converting those 3rd downs and keeping the Purdue defense on the field for a couple long drives that include some chunk plays.

Two things:1- Clifford plays within himself….manages the game….like a good point guard distribute the ball efficiently. 2) Let Diaz …be Diaz….have relentless ( creative/ but not reckless ) pressure on their QB. The ONLY way that Perdue can win is for us to lay back in a soft zone and allow their QB to pick us apart. IMO….they simply can’t win with their running game….they have to chuck and duck.

Several turnovers in our own territory, leading to easy points. Everything else we should be able to overcome on talent alone.

That's brings up one point about Pry defenses...many of them were certainly great and he deserves credit and appreciation accordingly. Yet if there was anything that brought trepidation, it was the fact that his blitzes very rarely "got home", thereby leaving the backside of the defense exposed without applying the intended pressure or getting the intended sack. Again overall he was great, but almost all of the QB pressure seemed to come from a PSU player beating the man in front of him (using Ebiketie as an example) and not from the design of a blitz. 🤷‍♂️

Truth! In my mind I can see all those blitzes that ran right into an OL and did jack crap, except to expose our Secondary.

If we hold Purdue to under 28 points, we win.

It comes down to a three hour competition with in-game decisions, Brohm vs Franklin.

I’ll take Franklin 165 hours a week. I’ll take Brohm 3 hours a week.

Hard to believe we’re less than two weeks away!

PSU is the more talented team, personally would take any win no matter how ugly. But would be disappointed if we win by less than 14-17 pts. And a loss, well, would lead to another crushingly disappointing season.

Just remember we want Fonzie sitting for Singleton, certainly not napping on Nick! ;)

I agree with your statement. We are much more talented than many of the teams we struggle with or have lost to. We are starting to put a bunch of players in the NFL, many more than the teams who challenge us. Since JF arrived, our avg recruiting ranking is higher than anyone in the BIG except OSU (Mich close to us). The overall team avg Star rating is higher than most teams we face. However, we are actually a middle of the pack BIG team on the field. Iowa is a team that tends to be on the other side of that story for whatever reason.

I expect Purdue to be a major struggle and would not be totally surprised with a loss.

No bonehead special team plays!
Probably my area of greatest concern. Will the kicking game be reasonably close to what we enjoyed last year? I loved seeing that ball driven into the ez pretty much every single time. The chances of making a "big" play by containing the return man inside the 20 imo is offset by the chance of a big return and injuries. I'll take EZ everytime.

And then there's the punt returner. Last year was so nice... you KNEW Dotson would catch the ball so you didn't hold your breath and worry. And he might do something special once he had it in his hands. Hoping for something at least in that ballpark. We'll see.

I would sign right now on the dotted line if we could catch every punt safely before it bounced all season long and not have a single return yard.

I don't have a good feeling about this one, which is good news. My pregame hunches are almost always wrong.
