- good to see boo get back into making shots, but there were points when eastern completed wiped him out
- nance was playing physical early, offfense is still non-existent
- thought Jones is putting together some solid minutes, and our big guys did really well overall defensively but only put together 21 points collectively form the 4 of them (although harms and williams only had 17)
- kopp was steady as usual
- heck of a play at the end to get an open look

- team has to make tough shots - especially at crunch time. purdue did this twice with a step back 3 on kopp and then the game winner
- defense kept the team in the game - except for a 10 point plus run to end the game
- i disagree with many on the "stall ball" - NU continues to get wide open shots. good teams win games on those shots. guys need to "nut up"
- feel bad for turner and his senior season. seems to can't find the basket

* Purdue did a good job on Buie and Spencer. To me, that was obviously the focal point of their defense.
* Beran's hurting. You can see a little limp in his step when he comes off the court.
* I agree about Jones. He was the best post defender tonight. Also, Harms was limited, but if I remember correctly, he may be playing hurt also.

If nance isn’t going to convert more on offense then he needs to start shooting less. He was 1-8 tonight I think. I want him to improve, but he’s so frustrating to watch. Tonight he had a great drive to the basket and it should have ended in a monster dunk, instead at the end he went into excuse me mode and didn’t finish.

Hopefully Boo can fill the role next year, but we struggle down the stretch because we don’t have the guy who can drive and if he doesn’t score at least he draws contact and gets to the line for FTs.

Jones was (channeling Larry David) pretty good. He's starting to beat his guy to the spot.

I agree w Haywood that the team had open looks and they didn't drop.

I think Buie's still hurt because he's nowhere near as aggressive as he was before the injury. He's not playing the same game.

I agree with every critique of slowing down the game when you don’t have anyone who creates with the ball. But Young has to make the layup in the last minute and we can’t let a shooter get wide open for a 3. It’s not complicated. Everyone deserves some blame and has to improve.

Another thought: That's a painfully tough game to precede a full week off.

I don’t know, he ends up on the floor as much as any player I’ve seen for us in a while. He plays with reckless abandon, which we need more of, but he’s also liable to pick up bumps and bruises along the way.

He also got a big ol’ elbow in the gut right before his 4th 3 attempt, after that flurry of three in a row. That couldn’t have felt good - he was doubled over in the corner before the pass came his way.

Can't agree on the stall ball. In the three-point and 30-second clock era you don't stop running your offense with a single-digit lead and four minutes to play. As Bardo said on the broadcast, even if you get a decent shot you usually have no one in position to rebound it.

I saw that one too- no idea how that wasn’t a foul on Purdue

We aren’t losing because of the refs, but we sure don’t get much respect from them on our home court either.

Against Ohio State when their guards drove we got called for fouls. When Spencer and boo did the same and drew contact it always seemed to garner a play on from the refs.

Did you see what Purdue did to Iowa last night? Hung 104 points on the Hawks in Mackey. This after struggling to beat 14th place NU in Evanston.

I said it in another thread. When you are 14, almost in every case, the better team wins. As you get older, the differences are not so big. Any myriad of factors will lead to the better team losing. Which explains why upsets in the tournament are not as shocking as some might think.

McCaffery post game quote...

The last thing you want to do is start screaming and yelling and calling guys out and placing blaming because when you have a game like this you have to blame the coach more than anybody. You have to try and figure out what we could have done differently. You have another one on Saturday against a really tough team, so you have to regroup, be tougher, but understand we have had a lot of travel, so you get the guys home and get them rested. I think you have to be honest with yourself. Did I give the best effort? Could I have done better? But, you can’t let that linger. You can’t keep talking about it. It’s one game. We got our ears pinned back and you gotta grow and be tougher in the next one. That’s what this league is.
