Would be a very good option if Cliff leaves. I am telling you though, I don't think Cliff is going anywhere and I think OSU is one of the reasons. Home state guy that has never been a part of a winning team against the Buckeyes. Plus I don't see a really big spot for him in the NFL. He throws off his back side WAY too much for the league.
So I believe it will come down to him wanting or not wanting to play a little more football.

I love all of Sean's contributions to our team but it's time for both sides to move on.
I don't think it will be his decision. I think CJF will decide if he has the option to stay for another year. It's not to say he won't get to play another year. It just may not be at PSU.

Why? Just because? He is our best realistic option next season. There is no way he is not welcomed back if he wants to return. Same for PJ. Both may want a shot at the kind of season that puts them on the draft boards. Their injuries this year likely prevented that.
The difference next year would be if Cliff gets hurt, we look like we would have two young but very legit talents to not completely fall apart.
Also, if we bring a Portal Transfer in, what are the chances Allar is somewhere else? Watching Caleb Williams at OU, I think you got to give Allar every chance to have the job next season.
Allar and Pribula will likely be great but not as true freshmen. No way they are a better option than a healthy 24 year old Clifford. Clifford (when healthy) has been significantly improved over last year and I'd expect that improvement in year 2 with MY to continue.
I never got this notion that a Freshmen QB can't be a starter. I am not comparing Allar to Williams, but look at how OU is with Williams as the starter. If Allar is as good as advertise, he will be the starter next season. These big time kids want to play, they don't want to sit on the Bech for a year or two.
I don't get the impression that Allar has a I'm the starter next year or gone outlook. He seems like a great kid with a good head on his shoulders. So he likely would also see the benefit of a year of tutelage before getting his shot. The bigger risk for a 5 star QB is getting thrown to the wolves and not being ready yet. That said, I'm sure Allar would be ready to compete if the job is open next year. Pribula is not to be counted out either.
I strongly feel that a much older and more experienced Clifford when healthy would probably be best for all though. I think he gives the team the best chance and time for Allar and Pribula to fully develop before their first look.
Actually I believe Clifford will be 25 next fall. And, probably more importantly, he stays either Pribula or Allar leave. And seriously, how many more games will we actually win if Clifford is around? Next year is a rebuilding year anyway....with Clifford we are probably looking at best 7 wins....See ya Sean, and thanks for everything.

I'm just curious why either wouldn't come if SC returned. It's not like a 2nd year guy coming in and securing the job for 2 years.
Just a feeling I have. But I know I don't want a 25 year old guy getting the majority of snaps on a team that will struggle to get 7 wins-8 wins tops. And I bet a beer that we lose at least on RB this winter when Singleton gets here...

If that would happen, I doubt we would ever know. CJF has a great relationship with the Clifford family, which may lead Franklin to let Clifford come back and play in 2022.
But if Clifford would leave after this season, and then his brother would also transfer, I guess that would be pretty bold handwriting that CJF and the family didn't agree on a few things........
Agree on the RB's. The over/under on RB portal entry's may be about 1.5. And if 2 or 3 do leave that would likely lead Franklin to bring in another RB from the portal to compliment the 2 freshmen and the 1 or 2 holdovers.....
I have been and continue to root for each of the RB's on the roster to show some talent and make plays as well as rooting for them to finish their PSU degrees and work towards success in life, but from what I have seen of them over the last couple of seasons it would not upset me if any of them left the RB room after this season. Possibly with the exception of Lee, who just needs to work on his blitz pickup and ball security.

I think you are correct on RB, 1.5. WR I'd say 2 portal and of course Dotson and Sullivan-Brown are gone as well. At QB, I'm thinking Roberson moves on as well. He looks to be getting passed this year and Allar and Pribula won't help his case. But I do think we have at least 50% chance of Clifford returning. I think we keep all the TEs. That's the offensive skill positions moving on in my opinion.
A team can add up to 7 players from the portal that do not count against the 25 player class limit in order to offset up to 7 players that team loses in the portal..........
Beyond RB and WR, who knows what other attrition awaits. Any OL not having seen the field is liable as well.

Didn't Franklin already say the 6th year for players has sailed because there was a season last year? It will be interesting if he makes an exception or two, but I get the impression he is focusing and prioritizing the incoming class to use the scholarships on.
Yes, the 85 limit still applies. But there were teams that brought in full classes that could not get to a full 85 roster and this change tries to address that. A team can now bring in 25 from H.S. and still add 7 transfers over those 25. 32 total.
