I don’t understand the supposed complaint by Quaintance’s father that his son doesn’t have the ball in his hands enough. Is that the gist of the complaint he made in some online forum? If so, I think he needs to consider first how much time his son has actually been on the floor and second whether his son has the skill set to have an offense run through him? He sure hasn’t shown anything like that in his limited time at UK. So, I would say to him that it's not Pope. Look at how much the ball is in the hands of Moreno, and how much decision making he’s involved in.
Basically, I believe Pope was using Quaintance to best showcase his true value at present – which is as a rebounder and shot-blocker with some potential as a limited post-up scorer. The kid is a poor shooter and it doesn’t look like concentrated repetition and practice was able to remedy that. It may just not be a skill set he’s ever going to get. But I think Quaintance would have really expanded his potential under Pope if he had played. I think he may have been able to play a similar role as Moreno out on the perimeter, and maybe his rolls to the basket would have been more effective than Moreno’s at this stage.
