Northwestern University basketball program IS IN THE HOUSE!!!

Anyone who thinks Chris Collins will be looking for ersatz greener pastures among the current pantheon of collegiate b-ball bluebloods is delusional. Coach Collins has planted the seed of round-ball greatness in the fertile soil of Evanston/North Chicago and the sprout that has emerged is very strong and getting stronger.

This seminal moment has not been lost on the broadcasters for this afternoon's round-2 NCAAT contest against a superior Gonzaga team that possesses all the tools to take the NCAA Basketball Championship flag back to Spokane this 2017. Those broadcasters were speaking from the heart when they said that NU's comeback from a 22 point deficit to close withing 5 in the game's final 4 minutes was nothing less than remarkable testament to what Coach Collins is building at NU. IMHO, Chris Collins is in Evanston to stay and wants to create his own legacy for competitive basketball prominence that has nothing to do with his Alma Mater Duke or his NBA-coach father or any other factor besides his own coaching acumen to develop quality b-ball talent into a dominating collegiate program. And that program resides in Evanston, Illinois. Any true student-athlete recruit who has common sense should recognize what is happening to the Purple Cats under Coach CC. Illinois is among the top 5 states in the US for high school b-ball talent, and I just know that Coach Collins, who is on the brink of building a monster dressed in Purple & White, will tap into that substantial in-state talent pool to get the best and brightest of that HS talent to continue their college careers under the mentorship of himself and his coaching staff.

Congrats to Coach Collins and his Purple 'Cat student-athletes on a truly memorable and ground-breaking season. The best is yet to come.

There are, I think, about six words in this post that I've never, ever seen over on the Iowa board.

I have to come here more often.

Great season, Cats. Ended sourly, but as OP stated: the best is yet to come.

And that post was written by one of our former football *players*, Rudolph. And one of the dimmer ones at that!

(I kid, I kid about the Waterboy's mental acuity).

Always a fun read when Waterboy waxes his own poetic musings about Wildcat sports.

To clarify for Rudolph: That post was written by the tearful “Oh-My-God” kid with braces wearing the NU uniform jersey today at the game. He’s working on his mid-range jumper and backdoor bursts to the hoop, just in case his academics and entrance test scores aren’t good enough to matriculate at Northwestern.

That kid should hustle up and get an agent, the hell with mid-range game and backdoor cuts.

Thank you for the nice words, friend. Reflecting on your statement, I’d say the season didn’t really “end sourly”. In our wildest dreams, we might have hoped to knock off a #1 seed in the NCAA Regionals, but we have to be a little realistic. We’ll take, for now, being one of the several tourney teams that lost to a #1 seed, and that after scoring 53 on them in the second half. Glass is half full, and the contents are pretty sweet, not so sour. Best to you...

Oh no doubt. This is why I came here and started a thread. So much reason to be proud, to be excited. The sourness has everything to do with the way the game played out (as it relates to officiating), not the effort or the promise (and character) inherently present in your basketball program.

Speak yourself. The ride was wonderful and I couldn't be prouder of the team, but it was a bitter ending. Very, very bitter. My home is full of broken $&17 right now. And my bracket is busted to boot.

What a great comment by Gaines. And don't think he is the only high school player who was watching his run! NU is coming and Illinois knows this and that is one reason why Underwood was offered six years and $18 million. Coach Collins will be getting a hefty raise and deserves it. Why shouldn't NU compete for Big 10 championships and more? All the myths have been debunked and history has been made and will continue to be made. This season was really Step 1 on the journey. Get on the board an enjoy the ride as NU fans! No more settling. No more hands on your head wondering when the other shoe will hit you in the back of the head. We have a team and a coaching staff that will fight, be tough and make us proud as the wins stack up!

Sure, I am speaking for myself. Find it interesting how different we feel after "that game”. I see it as validation, considering how the team came back and dumped a 53 on the Zags in the second half.

If the Cats first half performance (using the word lightly) had carried on to the late stages, it would have been an “ends sourly” scenario. The kind of thing that happened to NU versus Tennessee in a certain bowl game . Virginia this year versus Florida: outscored by 14 in the first half (31-17) and then by 12 after the intermission, to lose by 26. NU and the Cavaliers were in a similar bind, but ONE team turned it around and showed grit and focus all the way to the unusual nearly-photo finish. The few good Cubs teams’ seasons in recent decades have ended sourly, until this year. “My” Packers season this year was dreadfully sour at the end, getting mauled by the Falcons. After having made a glorious run.

The roll we were on went dormant for 20 minutes, and then resumed with a vengeance. Fifty years of Wildcat fandom tells me this was not sour or bitter. Not QUITE as sweet as it might have been, if ..... But pretty sweet to see the guys battle back and refuse to be blown out.

I can understand that. But, I wanted more. I tasted it. It was ours. And it was stolen. Hence the bitterness. But, the 53 point second half on a top 3 team in the nation was sweet indeed. Bittersweet.
