Apparently completely lost in the shuffle is the injury to Q.

He has been playing big boy ball of late and is also a vital piece of the puzzle (obviously)

Hoping for fully and speedy recovery- I can’t see him playing again this season, which is yet another major hurdle in the road ahead.

I agree. I would be very surprised if he plays again this season, and we could definitely use him

I think he comes back for sure. Atleast he don't have to worry about the twisting, torque, and explosive movements that Zion does. I would play J Rob a little as, well just for rebounding and shot blocking ability. It's not like Zion won't help backside anyway lol. I've always love that dudes effort. He don't quit on any plays regardless of how much time is left.

I think it’ll depend on the severity of his MCL sprain as to whether or not he’ll play again this season. If it’s a low grade sprain then he could possibly play by the second weekend which would be about 3 weeks from when he got injured.

Lost our two best big men early in the games against UNC. It stinks.

If anybody has been snake bitten it's Bolden

It seems like we are snake bitten as a program regarding injuries as our best players usually miss time during the season. Just over the last five years, all of these guys have missed time:

Grayson, Amile, Tatum, Giles, Bagley, Carter, Tre, Zion, Ques

One thing all those players have in common is each were projected a 1st round draft pick or has the potential to be a 1st round draft pick. Duke is a different type of program. When one of these elite prospects get banged up, be it minor or serious, I believe Dukes staff takes extra precautions to ensure they come back to protect the players value.

I am not saying other programs dont try their best to try ensure each player is 100pct healthy before playing again. But let's face it, for alot of these guys they have literally millions on the line. That slight knee pain or tightness is going to be evaluated differently at Duke then it is at a program like say Elon or even Wake.

With all that said, wishing the beat for Bolden. Kid has had the worst luck when it comes to health, and it clearly has effected his growth. This year was big for him cause it was his first healthy year. Hate to see this for the big dog.

Marques has become a pretty reliable center for us and his length can really be an asset in the paint. Big loss not to have him. I suppose it's good that the team isn't a stranger to not having him in the starting lineup and there have been some games where he has barely played due to matchups. Javin and Jack now have to step up and be what they were in the 2018 portion of this season. They stepped up last night and played well.

Curious if this will force us to experiment with smaller lineups with Zion at the 5 at some point in the ACCT. Zion, RJ, Cam, Tre and Alex could be pretty deadly.

Almost certainly will make us test smaller lineups. No question.

I feel really bad for Ques. He seems to be a super nice kid and has played well overall. Apparently, I was sympathizing too much with Duke players and managed to break both my ankles today falling off a curb. Jesus Christ Almighty that hurts.

He did come back to bench last night instead of staying in the locker room or going to a hospital. May not be as serious as we thought. Like someone else said, it depends on his serious the sprain is at this point. Luckily it’s not a tear.
I didn’t realize he came back to the bench. Still, it’s hard to imagine him coming back in 2 weeks when he couldn’t even get off the court on his own power whereas Zion basically jogged back to the locker room and won’t see the floor in at least 3 weeks,

That can be deceiving. Think about how bad it looks when a guy cramps up. He's back in the game after eating a banana.

Fair point. Still, my first thought when I saw him writhing in pain and unable to put weight on his leg was that he was out for the season. Hope i'm wrong

I really hope to see Ques again. If he is in fact out for the year, I truly hope he returns next year to complete his journey. I believe he has unfinished business, I would like to see him finish it.

^This. What really surprised me was that he had both knees bent (as in a normal position)? I would have thought that he would have had an ice bag on, but he actually looked like he wasn't in any discomfort. I didn't see him when he got up at the conclusion of the game, so I couldn't tell if he was walking on his own or not.
Could be deceiving, but maybe not as bad as the first diagnosis.
Go Duke!

I hope I'm wrong, but I don't expect to see him play again this season
To me if that was the case they would have said that. For him to walk back to the bench says alot to me. To me he will be back at some point as long as we advance in the ncaa

I just fear that getting back into shape for someone like Bolden will be harder than others. Game shape that is. Rebounding and rim protection are all we need from him. It's definitely a big loss. Get better big fella.

Does anyone know what the time frame is for a sprained MCLto heal? Is it similar to how long it takes for a grade 1 knee sprain to heal? If Zion plays Thursday like is expected then it will be 3 weeks and 1 day since his injury. If the healing time for a sprained MCL is about the same then that would mean that Bolden wouldn’t be able to play again until at least the weekend of the Sweet 16 and Elite 8 which would be roughly about 3 weeks after his injury.

Typically for a grade 1 its 1 to 3 weeks

MCL is harder to “ice” that’s likely why they weren’t. No shocker he’s out next weekend. I’ll be shocked if duke sees him ready before sweet 16. Shocked.
