I like to think that I am a reasonable person. If coach leaves this year I have complete confidence in our AD to make another big time hire. If coach stays this time and continues to raise up our program, I expect him to be moving on in 4-5 years, most probably to the NFL. My question for you guys is if coach comes to you this year, do you believe that he will retire as your coach?

I expect whoever is our coach next year to improve the program and eventually compete for ACC titles. Beyond that, I have no expectations.

You just never know with any coach, and Brohm would be no different. High level coaches typically have a need for a challenge and a desire to compete at the highest level. Whether that means college or the NFL for Brohm is anybody's guess. We have learned here at Louisville not to expect anybody to be a lifer.

Like Steeler said we have learned not to expect our coaches to be here for life. I will say that if there ever was a coach that might be the one I think it would be Brohm.

I think if Jeff is our next coach and is successful he would obviously be more likely than any other coach in the country to stay at Louisville. I think the NFL is just like the NBA....not every college coach wants to coach in the professionals. I'm not sure if Jeff wants to coach in the NFL....if Louisville has been so successful that NFL teams are trying to poach him and he wants to do that, more power to him.

I’ve heard more than one pundit mention that Jeff is well respected in the NFL and that the NFL could be interested in him. Beyond that I’ve heard nothing.

If we should lose him to another program or the NFL that means he’s been successful and that our program should be in great shape. It always sucks but it’s the life of a FB coach.

It depends on how well he does. I can give you a datapoint though (it's only one, and it's 11 years ago, so it may not apply now). But here you go. In 2007, Nick Saban offered the OC job to JB, and JB turned it down to be the OC at Louisville.

Successful coaches really aren't much different than us they just get more opportunities during their career. The right opportunity at the right time coaches leave, schools have very little control. If Brohm leaves Purdue now it is more about Louisville than what Purdue did or didn't do.
