Question for other season ticket holders

I saw a photo put out from UK on Twitter showing seatbacks being installed on the seats in the End Zone. Was that a photoshop prank or what? 25 year season ticket holder here, too many times in the past we asked for these same seatbacks only to be told that the sections with them contributed money ($250 per ticket) for this "upgrade". If you were running the operation, wouldnt you give the upgrade comforts to the donators before the those who don't? This is a first for me. I have to agree with a few other posters on here. The average fan is going by the way of the dinosaur. Anyone have any update or info on this?

No update but I thought the entire lower bowl was getting seatbacks. Just would like to know before the first game so I know if I have to get my padded seats I normally get or not

I would like to know this also because of padded seat order. They keep saying chair backs but it really seem like it just bench backs in the entire lower bowl. Seems like I read somewhere to actually convert everthing to true chair seating you would lose more seats.

The photo was of the club section. For some reason they are redoing the seats that were put in last year. Bench backs for lower bowl except student section.

Thanks for update. I was wondering about that 1 picture which was obviously showing chairs being put in. Whoever worded the press release and the new backs in lower bowl should have been more clear on what is actually being done.

Yes, inaccurate and misleading.

Uk had to do warranty work on concrete under seats. Not new seats just existing seats reinstalled

You could be right but I am pretty sure Marc Hill told our group that it was the seats that were not right and they knew it last year but didn't have time to switch them out. Whatever it is, it was under warranty......

Benchbacks - yes
Seatbacks - no
Correct..that's what I meant to say...that is going to be so cool...the entire stadium will be BLUE! !! something that should have been done a LONG time ago. I think UK will now be in the top 25% of the nicest stadiums in the sec! !!!

Hate the benchbacks. Legroom was tight before but now my knees are wedged against the back in front of me and it is flat out miserable. Only solution is to stand up all game long which is feasible when the score is close but not so much in a blowout.

plan is to spend half million each year on stadium updates
Wow! A whole half-mil annually, huh? That's a whole 1.6% of the SEC payout UK received this past year!!!! Wheeee! Barnhart is an absolute joke.

I know right.....what we really need to do is spend $130M and do a complete remodel of the entire stadium......

So what do you propose as a more appropriate number? You are probably aware that our athletics department does have some other financial obligations, that we are building a new football practice facility, that we are planning to build a new baseball stadium. Have you read evaluations of ongoing stadium maintenance requirements that would lend substance to your criticism? Have you ever put together a corporate budget? Since you are calling our athletics director a joke, do you have any idea what you are talking about? Or is this more of the same?

I wish we could have seats throughout the whole stadium. They say it would reduce numbers but they should be reduced if the stadium's current seating is too small for an average ***. Plus seats keep you from being crushed by fatasses that take up two seats and make your whole row miserable to sit in.

Whole stadium redo badly managed. Could have done recruiting room. Then training facility. Then redo sideline and only lose two thousand or so seats. Could have started sideline now or next three years. Of course all should have started under brooks.

While I agree with your message, it has all the subtly of a hand grenade in a phone booth.

think the industry standard is 18 inches an ***... when i was a ticket holder i purchased wildcat seatbacks... best thing about it was that it marked my spot... but that didn't prevent *** creep from the guy next to me... seats would be nice but you won't get someth'n for both'n? be carful what you ask for.

The recruiting room and training facility don't increase the stadium's revenue. Suites and clubs do. It is the revenue from the suites and club sections that is paying for the other projects.
Add the fact that have to get and use money when you can get it. When Stoops was hired UK was able to get donors to step up and contribute to the program and get the state and university to approve the project. If you tried to do it piecemeal...bit by bit you would never get the financial support and at any time other priorities could arise, governors make big cuts to school funding and the state and/or university could pull the rug from the project.

People go on about "all the SEC money"...guess what? All the other SEC schools get that same money plus they are doing other things to increase their revenues. UK has $100 million athletics budget and are competing against schools with $120-$160 million budgets.

18" is on the low side of industry standards. Generally, stadium seats run 18" to 22" wide. In Paul Brown Stadium, I believe the seats are 21" wide. But you also have to remember, its not just the width of the seat- when stadiums have full seats, there is an additional inch or so between you and the person sitting next to you because of the structure of the seat.

If there are 18 inches between the numbers at Commonwealth, realize that is less room than a standard seat with 18" of width to sit. ,And while I don't blame UK for spending only for the rich folks in the upgrade, as they are paying for it, don't charge us regular fans NFL prices to sit in the equivalent of a high school stadium seat.

Finally, I would love to know how many seats they would have lost by putting in actual seats in the lower bowl and compare it to the number of empty seats every game this year...

Empty seats will take care of themselves when we win. Bench backs a great idea. I think they more comfortable than being squeezed in a chair seat. Plus you maintain current seat numbers. As for doing it piecemeal, much easier to get approval for thirty to forty million than 180 million which was needed. By saving money along the way leading to projects total debt would have been much less. Love the changes but the process mismanaged.
