Huepel and Beamer started around the same time right?

Both teams have comparable talent right?
This was debated at length after the first year. I went back and pulled up the recruiting rankings for the 4 years leading up to the transition, and UT averaged 4 spots higher for those 4 years.

I think it has widened that gap since then though.

What I find interesting is the aggression difference. There's something to be said for a more aggressive offensive philosophy. And they're doing it with a mediocre qb transfer from an acc team, while we have a Heisman candidate transfer.

Heupel is a master of the phase of the game that is the most important there is today. That is sizable advantage.

I don't think that; I don't think we beat Tennessee, though.

Agreed. Remember, a&m is imploding, and Missouri is beatable, and there's always vandy.

Not sure we beat all 3, but one or two of them.

To the OP's point, it's a vastly different trajectory for the two teams though.

Tennessee is guaranteed to get better recruits because that's what obvious improvement and success (in terms of wins, not 4th quarters) brings.

No the talent is not comparable. That should not be hard to figure out. It will take a while. People need to be patient. No quick fix.

We had leagues better talent than UT before Spurrier gave up. I think our QB, O line, and receiving corps talent dropped off precipitously during the Muschamp years, while UT methodically shored up those areas.

UT lost a ton of players to the portal when the NCAA investigation was under way prior to Heupel being hired. He built quick by using the same portal that lost him a lot of talent.

Yeah, I wish people would give Heupel more credit for that. If winning is what's important, I'd think that has to be a big part of the recruiting strategy. Developing players for 3-4 years is not it (especially when the best ones don't typically choose to stick around for 4 years).

The Vols are on point and we haven’t shown much this season. Might be a rough game

If we somehow beat Kentucky I might change my mind, but as of right now I don't think we beat anybody. Seems like every year I hear we have a chance to beat a&m but they've owned us, and Missouri looks better than us to me

Agree on Mizzou....they looked much better against UGA than we did, and they kept the game against UF closer than I think we will. It hasn't shown in the W-L column....but they've been a lot more competitive against the bigger teams in the SEC than we have thus far.

Talent is not comparable right now......BUT it was when Heupel took over the program and that is the issue.
There's really no need to elaborate beyond that. And who has the better chance of recruiting offensive firepower - really?

Hey pal, Missouri is tough and Vandy is leading Ole Miss at the half.

Talent or no talent, It just looks like they know what they're doing every play, we come out looking like a high school football team just starting a football program... every game

Don't disagree, although ole miss pulled away now.

What I'm saying is Missouri is beatable, not that we will. If we're seriously sweating vandy, then we have bigger problems than OC.

Beamer & Co better take Vandy seriously or they may get surprised by how things turn out. Of course I think everyone left on the schedule should be treated as an important game.

No way. Tn. has an exceptional qb and 3 wide receivers that are playmakers. I just don's t see us matching up with Tn. at all.

Nice to see the Gamecock’s #1 fan cocean on tonight. Good road win last night and this is his topic of the day. Some people just need to be miserable I guess.

One of "us" is messing with some of "y'all", but I'm going to go with Damon Wayans (Homey D. Clown) on this. "Homey don't play that."

I don't know, but Heupel has UT humming. What's impressive to me is that, even though their W/L record wasn't great last year, he came in Year 1 and installed his offense. Our offense is still fumbling around for the most part. Can't say I fully understand why he could go in and instantly improve their offense while we're still searching after 19 games.

Huepel lucked into Hooker. That's all. Remember, he is the same guy that tanked UCF and then claimed he built it from the bottom up. He will be exposed as soon as Hooker is gone.

At least we have moved on from when Sam Pittman was the new pretty girl at school.

I would guess it is simply the difference between a simple, fast spread offense and a more complex Pro-style offense. Much longer time in the professional leagues to prepare for a more complex system.

I'd settle for something a little more simple if it meant more points. I don't see the glory in running a complex offense that struggles to score.

I agree as well. Look how Hooker benefitted from the new "simpler" system. Even a simpleton can see the huge leap in production.

Fr - 9 games played, 13 tds 2 ints
So - 8 games played, 9 tds, 5 ints
Moved to UT
Jr - 12 games played, 31 tds, 3 ints

Huepel took a mediocre acc qb and put him in a position to excel, and he's reeping the benefit.

More like Hooker took a previous fired Oklahoma QB coach and program tanking head coach at UCF and is making him look a lot better than he is.

Heupel should just be glad his first choice for QB got hurt and put the obviously better QB that he benched on the field. Even a big, fat, lying, blind squirrel finds a nut sometimes.

The actual stats seem to disagree with your questionable opinion.

If I were a college OC I would run an O like SOS...Throw to a spot. I would run similar plays over and over disguised by different formations.
