No idea if it happened but JF did seem distracted or disinterested the last few weeks. Could of been nothing or was he told by Kraft that there were "outside" forces pushing for change and JF needed to continue to win and finish the season strong. When the losses mounted JF knew he was going out with the bathwater....

So many people are so in love with Pribula. Last week he had a chance to beat Alabama and what did he do? He threw a game ending interception on the last drive. The same thing that so many people would crucify Allar for. Pribula looks better because she isn't in a PSU uniform. How many playoff appearances/wins does he have? Why do people think he was the better option? It might be stats based but certainly not results based.

I think you are just trying to make yourself feel better with #1. While I am sure Kraft has a list for each HC position, no way he has a deal done with someone.

Could be, although I think it is very dangerous to make a move to have a national search because you could end up with way worse that JF.

1. Yes, lists are continually kept. Ruhle is at the top for obvious reasons.
2. Maybe. Ruhle finally has resources and is the coach of a 1-loss team now.
3. No, but I think its tough to think you have your team prepared and lose to an 0-4 UCLA team who many at the time regarded as one of the worst squads in America with new coaches.
4. He hired them but I'm pretty sure he was accurate in saying he reviews their plans and comments but they are the coaches for their respective units.
5. Maybe if Drink gets hired, which wouldn't be a bad thing in my opinion. Sort of a package deal.
6. I think the team is confused on assignments at times - @TFrankCarr has done an excellent job of showing players missing assignments or otherwise playing confusing football this year. I also think as Terry noted today in his presser, sometimes things don't go your way and it snowballs -- guys lose their edge and miss assignments. Yes, they are paid but they are kids/young men still. Young men do dumb things and at other times amaze you. I do think the squad expected Allar to carry them at times. He sort of did btw at UCLA and a win there, even by a point might have been a wake up call for everyone.

#1 we certainly hope and pray.
#2 is spot on, we hope and pray.
#4 Franklin didn't call plays as has been reported by many, but he influenced certain down and distance calls at crucial times like joe did as in don't throw the ball here run the ball here etc. Comes from a press guy who knows.

1. Highly doubt it, but stranger things have happened. The community had become toxic so little he could do than to let Franklin go. Do I think it was the right move? No. PSU can do much, much worse. Only time will tell.
2. Ruhle may be a bleeder of Blue and White, but his record in big games are the same or worse than JFK
3. No, Pure speculation, but Kraft may have told Franklin he needs to change out personnel and Franklin got his hackles up.
4. Chance? Only if the Missouri coach is hired, which is highly unlikely.
5. Only spitballing. James went with a B12 OC to play B10 football. Same can be said about Jim Knowles but his time at OSU, and what he accomplished there, should give him a bit more time.

Knowles likely does not have the type of players to effectively run his scheme. Unfortunately it will take a few recruiting cycles to get the type of players that fit his defense. The glaring weakness of Knowles is that he only knows his scheme and has not been able or chooses not to adapt or change the scheme to fit the current players.

If he is retained, the next coach may not rely on recruiting as heavily as Franklin did. Like Indiana did (and others) the portal may very well be where the stop gap talent is going to come from. I am also not 100% convinced that future coaches will put that much emphasis on developing talent as paying proven talent. You can turn over a roster overnight (USC, Indiana, and so on).

But I do not disagree that Knowles is firmly committed to his system. That's why he has been successful and why you brought him in.. My opinion is that you get him what he wants and let him work for a couple of years. Its going to be a shitshow anyway.

To point 1, I am assuming Ruhle is as good as signed. His answer about the Penn State job was as close to a coach saying “As soon as this season is over, I’m taking that other job” as I’ve ever heard. I may be wrong, but with the connections between the two that certainly seems to be the way it’s going.

Which begs the question, if this team has so much returning talent, why risk attempting to implement a completely new defensive scheme? In hindsight, this decision looks like it valued winning the offseason more than actually winning games.

On the defense - this year's defense is painfully less talented. Carter, King, Reed are the names at each level. But the overall depth, especially the DL, has been critically bad. Then throw in the Rojas injury.

I said this in another thread - but last year was THE year. The current roster is not as talented as last year.
