Interesting development. Texas Tech's AD leading the BIG 12 expansion says the next four in won't necessarily be the last adds--expects an 8-10 year process in adding schools. UConn probably hoping a quick change can move them up like they were a few years back. Access to the NYC corridor might still matter in a league that will be working hard to get realistic revenues in their next media deals.

UConn is alot like Kansas--considered a MAJOR BRAND because of their stellar basketball programs. They have alot of appeal in the NYC market too and that region. They have shown that football can be good in a good conference.

Who knows but in a conference seeking major media deals without an OU, every major brand helps.

On their end they will try for it anyway--probably made a major mistake dropping down from the AAC a few years back and becoming horrid in football.

Soon to be a real Big 12 is looking at UConn as one of four teams in a second wave of expansion after 2023. Access to NY C cable markets for next media contract.

The 2nd phase of the big 12 expansion is just to replace the next phase of big 12 defections. The AAC might as well just change its name to the big 12 now.
