Rattler holding onto the ball “too long”

Posted about this in another thread, but now there’s a stat to back it up.

Not sure this is all on all Rattler, but it’s some on him. Could our receivers do a better job of getting open? Or maybe that’s how long the coaches want him to hold onto it. Or he’s just holding it too long.

Watching him play, it is painfully obvious why he was benched at OK. Pressure rattles him, he makes poor throws, he isn't comfortable in the pocket if it isn't spotlessly clean and he isn't the runner we thought he was going to be. At OK , he never faced SEC defenses, only Big 12 weak as water defenses. The adjustment is proving to be tough for him.

I also think he may be a victim of unrealistic expectations by the fans. Too many people assumed he was going to come in and be a Heisman hopeful and light up defenses. Even the weaker SEC defenses are fundamentally sound for the most part.

I'm sure he hopes to see improvement with the offensive line. When he has time.....good things happen.

I think a lot of people thought he could do all that in spite of our atrocious O line, clearly this needs to be a team effort for him to succeed. No Connor Shaw is this one.

The opening drive against GA there was at least one quick slant over the middle thrown successfully but we never went back to a similar throw. Most are long developing downfield routes or long throws to the outside into coverage, so play calling has something to do with it.

I'm pretty sure there is more than one receiver option on every pass play. Going through progressions is a big part of being a qb. Maybe he doesn't have enough time to look at more than one receiver or maybe he is committing to one receiver from the snap.

No offensive line in the SEC is good if the QB holds the ball too long. And going through the progressions entirely too slow doesn't help the OL either. I've seen many wide open check downs that Rattler hasn't seen. Many. That Stat alone proves he has had more time, on average, than any other SEC QB.

Almost hate to say this, but Doty should get some reps imo. With the first string
