Yeah I'm not opposed to having to show an ID either. I don't agree with having to pay (for an ID) to practice the constitutional right to vote though. Everyone should be automatically issued an ID (and also registered to vote) for free when they turn 18. It can be a supplement to other licenses, so even if you already have a driver's license, then you can also have this one. Though I would consider not issuing it if you already have other acceptable forms of ID for voting, but acceptable forms of ID vary from state to state (and DC and territories) and this would be one that could be accepted everywhere so it could simplify things in that regard.
Just a simple, government verified ID for voting purposes. If the government and private enterprise deems this ID good enough for other things like traveling, banking, etc. then so be it.
