I just did a home inspection for a sweet elderly UK fan here in Florida. She has memorabilia all through the house and a flag out front. She said she is disgusted with the state of the program and that her mother, who lived to be 105, never missed a game on TV and would sometimes set her alarm if she had to, in order to wake up to watch. She said she was optimistic about Pope when he got hired but that he clearly isn't up to the job. I even tried to console her with the upcoming football season and she said "I don't know anything about football." 🤣

Just a reminder that the trolls here do NOT represent BBN IN. THE. SLIGHTEST.

I like to believe most of BBN is disgusted enough to not want year 3 of Pope. It’s obvious what a disaster it’s been.

It's unfortunate her response about football. I'm hoping the next admin will make us relevant in both.

Mitch put fans in a tough position. Nobody wants to see a former player that was a team captain fail. I honestly don’t even like criticizing Pope, because I loved that 96 team. I also think he’s a really nice guy. I just try to be honest with my assessment of the team right now. I would love for Pope to prove everyone that’s doubting him wrong including myself. I think the majority other than the trolls would agree with that.

Yeah I know alot of folks like the elderly lady you described. They only are fans when the Cats are in Final Fours. These aren’t your true fans, but cool story.

Agree, very well said.

You really do have to do some serious spinning and filtering to feel hopeful that it can happen, based on the evidence available.

Regardless of how bad the program is in Football or Basketball I will fly my UK Flag out front of my house in Memphis and I turn on the Blue under gutter lights in the backyard to set the stage for the game. I’m from KY, I’m a UK Fan and bleed blue till the end, these ballgames don’t represent who we are, like in life, this is a rough spot on the road of life. Soon we will be back in the fast lane. 🤞

If people were honest they would admit their first reactions (for the majority) weren’t good when he was named the head coach. Mitch done a good job selling it with that press conference. The 90s was such a fun time to be a Kentucky fan, and the way they handled that press conference was perfect. Coaching at a blue blood is hard and if Pope doesn’t improve substantially, he won’t make it here. Finishing 6th and 9th in the SEC won’t work and he knows that.

You were all in for Calipari till the end and now you’re going to be a Pope man till the end as well. Calling out elderly people for having standards with the program is hilarious.

Guys like you help give another good example of why this job is so good. We have fans that will support the coach no matter how bad they do.

Coaches will line up to go to UNC and Kansas.

Coached want nothing to do with UK.

Wanna know why?

The FANS!!!
I think the top coaches have such strong egos that they aren't worried about the fans, as far as being able to live up to the expectations.

The one thing I could see a coach being concerned about is if they thought that certain things could be used against them in recruiting. They trust their ability, but they also know they've got to be able to bring in the players they need.

According to Lord Pope, that little old lady and her 105 yr old mother, are both part of the 1% who don’t appreciate or understand the beautiful nature, and tremendous journey of making “progress”, as compared to Calipari’s last 4 seasons!

She needs to shut up, and get in line with the “new normal” at UK… 14 loss seasons, barely making the Dance, and Lord Pope’s exceptional word salad’s deflecting responsibility towards BBN instead of him, at season’s end!

So with your logic, you are saying fans like you are the reason the job is bad? Bingo! You nailed it!

I work with youth in Chicago and this is an actual conversation I had last week with a few 17 year old boys.

Me: Who are you guys pulling for in the tourney? Kentucky? (I then pointed at my UK sweatshirt.)

Them: Nah. I used to like Kentucky when they had guys but now they're mid.

Bullshiiit, the fans did nothing to get rid of Stoops, but aTm fans kept him out of their house. BBN isn't the problem idiot
The guy running BBN sports the guy who probably tripped over his shoelaces in hs dropping his pocket protector on the foot of a stud fb player and got spanked.

Lmbo interesting you interpret it that way. Doesn’t surprise me at all. Some of our fans can come up with some goofy stuff.

 You've had a football AD for 20+ years here who blew a tremendous amt of $$ on that program and yet it still remains in the lower

half of the SEC. While maintaining football mediocrity, Barney dog-walked our premier , historic basketball program to a lower level SEC team.

Sacrificed the only thing UK is known for to try and pump up our hapless football program. Idiotic SOB.

I’m with that Florida fan on football.

Watching the Kentucky practice videos I can see this is gonna be worse than stoops tenure.
These coaches are soft as shiiit. I’m so sick of the Mr nice guy approach. “There we go baby!”
“Let’s Goooooo baby!” coaches are supposed to be intimidated not your best friend, soccer mom, coaching demeanors are way too soft these days.
Hurley pretty rough on his players but you can even see the woman in him. WTH kind of world are we living in this day.

Neighbor of mine here in Delaware, Ohio (north of Columbus) who likes to tease me when I walk by in one of my UofL shirts took down his UK Wildcats mini-flag and replaced it with an Easter flag after the loss to Iowa State.

Next time I see him, I plan to give him a little crap back for not at least keeping his flag out in support of Coach Brooks and the Women’s team.🤪

I'll be honest, I was surprised when they hired Pope, but thought that he could recruit better at Kentucky then what he is doing, and would have better talent. Loved his first year team, but we've had bad luck both years. Unless he gets some better recruits, he won't be here long.

If you don’t think unc and Kansas fans are the same then you don’t know much.
They have some bad ones, but we're at a different level!

When things are going well, its a major blessing, but when things are going bad, we are our own worst enemy.

Don't get me wrong. I LOVE my team, but I worry that some fan's passion will yield diminishing results.

I guess you don't look at Twitter.

Calling players "***" and being personal toward them doesn't help us at all.

BTW...You calling me an idiot shows that you are part of the problem.

I've on here since before the Patrick Patterson/Jai Lucas recruitments, and I've never been personal with a player or a fan.

That's not true. Mitch was way late with facility improvements and such. Even Rich Brooks who Mitch hand picked from Oregon left UK because of the lack of money committed to football resources. The recruiting room consisting of a card table and folding chairs was the iconic staple for football commitment.

Stoops arrived and sold himself to Mitch. Mitch allowed Stoops to stay too long with that badly timed extension )post VU loss). Mitch saddled us with Stoops like he did Cal.

Sure he didn't cowtow to Cal when Cal wanted a new basketball facility, but that wasn't out of love for Stoops--he wasn't going to cave to Cal as far as facilities at that moment.

Im not sure where you get "football AD" out of Mitch.. He was simply an incompetent AD for both major programs. I will make the argument for a true fb minded AD, because in my opinion, football is grander scale in so many ways including economically and popularity conference and nationwide. I guess that makes me football first, but I stand behind it.

BTW, I didn't see the Florida fan post, or I missed it.

Edit: ok I know the post you're talking about. It was a guy who is an Oregon fb fan and UK bball fan (yuck) who was ripping the Stein hire. That guy had an agenda to demoralize the fans about the hire despite evidence to the contrary. If you're with THAT guy, I feel sorry for you.
