I was really glad to see the demeanor that Cal displayed in his post-game press conference at South Carolina. Cal can get a little snarky at times, and he didn't. He manifested a level of humility that I think is positive for the team.

I loved his exchange with one reporter who told Cal that he had surpassed Adolph Rupp in winning percentage at U.K. After observing that he [Cal] didn't know how Rupp was able to coach for 40 years, Cal said to the reporter (paraphrasing): "You know, we've had 19 guys go to the NBA in the last 5 years. X number of our players are going to play in the NBA All-Star game. When you've got good players, you're going to win a lot of games."

Great statement, and an appropriate acknowledgement by Cal that, as the old saying goes: To a large extent, great players make great coaches.

That's why recruiting is part of coaching. People don't like to include it, but it's stupid not to. Coach K doesn't win 1,000 games without great players. Phil Jackson doesn't win multiple NBA titles without great players. It's part of the overall quality of a coach - to be able to get great players and to coach them.

That said, I'm really hoping UK lands either Newman or Brown. Would be great to have yet another instant impact NBA rookie via the Kentucky machine in a few years.
