I had read many years ago that they had the most # 2s without a # 1. I did not remember that it was 5 of ‘em, but knew my answer was correct.

I mean, pop music is littered with songs that are classics and have been played on the radio and in cover bands across the nation for decades that never reached #1 due to some one-hit wonder or cheesy as hell pop song that managed to have its 15 minutes of fame.
Interesting that John Fogerty (CCR's lead singer/songwriter) later had a #1 hit (The Old Man Down the Road) as a solo artist. Then he got sued for sounding too much like CCR by his old record company.
Somebody at his old record company thought it was a good idea to sue Fogerty for plagiarizing HIMSELF! Uh, how is that even possible for someone to plagiarize themselves? The utter lunacy of the claim was off the charts, so to speak, and, yet, Fogerty had to go to court to defend himself. Unreal.
Surprising! And to think that Debbie Boone held the #1 spot for 10 weeks with You Light Up My Life.
Dexys Midnight Runners or A-Ha.
I checked and this is the wrong answer because dexy's midnight runners had two number ones in the UK and aha only hit number two in the UK.

This one is always on one hit wonders play lists so this is my guess. It was a #1 in both US and UK. Not a group though.

My thoughts went immediately to Wild Thing. Also only hit two in the UK. I saw the correct answer. The Troggs had multiple hits I guess.
A friend of mine was the drummer on green tambourine. he sat in for the regular drummer who was sick at the time. it was the only time he ever played with them but it was good enough for a yearly royalty check for about $50 for the rest of his life.

Three of the eight financial backers for the 1975 Monty Python movie, “The Holy Grail”, were British Rock bands Pink Floyd and Led Zeppelin, and Jethro Tull frontman, Ian Anderson. The others were various record labels and folks in the industry. They gave their money for the tax write off because they were all in the top British tax bracket of 90%.
A couple years later former Beatle, George Harrison, mortgaged his house to get cash to start a movie production company and financed Monty Python’s next movie, “The Life Of Brian”.
