1. Lower admission standards for athletes and have a couple majors in sports management etc.. Won’t hurt a thing, Duke does it!

2. Go all out in NIL. Use the Tex A&M model. There’s plenty of big alums in Chicago and nationally, in addition to Pat Ryan, who can be on the NIL committee and help supply the fund. Pay the most in NIL in the Big Ten, it will pay off in spades.

3. Get a coach who can really recruit (and use the portal) and who knows how to use the NIL bank roll to land some elite players.

4. Winning = more recruits, more money, fan interest, sold out arenas, and more recognition for the University.

If they’re not willing to do this NU will never compete in the Big Ten.

Illinois landed a 5 star point guard today. Their current incoming class is 8th in the nation and there are still two other Big 10 teams ahead of them.

For NU to have any success in the Big 10 they either need to be able to recruit on that kind of level (unlikely imo) OR they have to find a coach who has a great system and can find/develop players to fit.

The problem with Collins is technically he has recruited well “for NU” but that’s still pretty far down the list for Big 10 schools and he simply hasn’t shown the ability to develop a team better than the sum of the individual parts.

His concept of bringing Duke type b-ball to NU doesn’t work when you can’t pick and choose which of the top 100 recruits you want every year.
