How much do you think all the losing matters to our current big name recruits. Obviously, no one goes to NU because they want to play for a basketball powerhouse, but 2-18 in conference is just ugly.

It would make recruiting PBJ and Christie at that point so much harder (and its already REALLY hard). Would love to see us get to 4 wins so that we can say we are building something and show some momentum etc. Christie has an offer Illinois who is having a great season.

If nothing else, it would keep Berry from getting cold feet that the program is a mess. And I know he's signed, but anything is possible with NU hoops see, e.g., BAM and Lathon

Did we pick up another conference win?

Honestly, I don’t think in this case it makes a hill of Beans of difference if we have 1 conference win or 4. These guys have offers to Duke, CCC only hope as slim as it may be is to sell the savior of the program angle. Taking them from 1 win is an even better story. If NU lands either PBJ or Christie I would be stunned.

FYI, I don’t believe Illinois is recruiting him. (Not saying they didn’t extend an offer at one point, but I don’t believe they’re recruiting any further.)

But to your bigger point, I don’t think it matters. Relationships are huge in recruiting. Winning and tradition help, and some kids are woo’ed by that. But for the vast majority of recruits, I think relationships heavily heavily influence their decision.

I honestly don't know. I think we have some good talent coming in. But we are about to endure our 5th losing season in the last 7 years. We lost at home to Merrimack and Radford. We've had transfers and high profile decommit. But Ty Berry and Boo Buie is a REALLY intriguing back court. Nance didn't take a step forward and might have a lower ceiling than we all hoped. But Young is much better than anyone predicted.

I guess the answer for now is maybe.

Look, Christie and PBJ were always reaches. I don’t think they’re coming here, even if NU wins out this season.

Collins needs impact freshmen in the 2021 class. They don’t have to be superstars. But think a guy like Luke Goode, who could at least be a solid guy off the bench to back up Kopp or Gaines and take over for them as a sophomore. And maybe one of the Michigan guards, who could step in for Berry/Audige and NU wouldn’t see a drop off.

So, like two Top 125 guys. I’d say that would keep momentum trending in the right direction. Let’s see if CCC can pull it off.

Christie? Illinois is definitely recruiting him. They were up to see him last night. He is expected to attend a game soon. Winning helps. He has gone from barely looking at Illinois to giving Illinois a real chance.

Beran Young and Boo make three and Berry is 4 plus another couple of bigs with rotation potential. Need one more solid recruit and it is a group to build on. Nance and Kopp still flash talent but the FYs with Young as RS FY are already showing more potential than the sophs. The team just cant go 40 minutes this year. Next year they will be able to play full games. NU had football success winning OT and close games. BBall team just needs to get learn to win the close ones. Tough season but so much more young talent than some dark age teams.

If you believe Kopp only flashes talent, you are not watching the same games I am.

Kopp shows he has talent. He is a good one. I think the Fys have more upside than the sophmores and are ahead of where the sophmores were last year. Beran can have a huge impact. The Cats have not won a game that I have been able to watch. I did catch Merrimack Radford and Hartford. Flashes talent and talking about the upside is not speaking badly for a team that may finish last with some truly horrible losses. I also agree that when Kopp gets a smooth release his shot sure looks good.

Kopp’s a good player now and going to continue to develop. Not sure he was completely ready for the big uptick in minutes- his shot usually looks a lot better early than late in games, guessing he gets tired/weak legs.

Kopp is our best scorer at 13.4/game. That’s #15 in the B1G. I’d risk saying, this century, only Coble and Shurna might have had a better average as a SO.

This century, at a quick glance, only Shurna (18.2), Coble (15.9), Vukusic (14.3) and McIntosh (13.8) had better second-year scoring averages than Kopp. (VV was a RS-SO.) That's pretty lofty company.
