The Ivy League doesn’t allow medical redshirts, so basketball players can’t play a fifth year as a grad student. Because of this rule, many players transfer to other D1 schools. Does NU recruit Ivy Leaguers as grad transfers? If not, why not? They have the academic chops, obviously, and some are pretty darn good and have played 3/4 years of college hoops. Thoughts?

Does the Ivy League allow any type of red-shirting? if not their players use up all of their four years of eligibility, unless they transfer out to another Div. I program after their sophomore season, no?

I understand it as they can transfer at any time, they just can't play a 5th year in the Ivy.

There was a guy at Columbia (Alex Rosenberg, per google) a few years ago who was injured for the season and took the year off from school so he could play four years there. So there is that workaround.

But they have make a conscious effort to do it, correct?

One guy I know we recruited recently is Evan Boudreaux at Purdue, although he hasn't done much at a Big Ten level.
