Things like this are bound to happen when OU reduces focus on recruiting Texas to follow a national recruiting strategy. Those Texas kids have more options these days than just OU, Texas, or the occasional A&M pick up like years past...;)

So the coaches have reduced their focus on Texas recruiting?...you have some kind of inside information on exactly what their focus is?...recruiting trips...calls...etc? Baylor should not be an option in my eyes...

It's been pretty much known that years ago OU went to a more national based recruiting strategy over focusing on Texas.

Billy..known by whom? that almost sounds like the old saying that we don't recruit in OK as well. You are reading too many pundit writings on the efforts of the coaches to get the best players nationwide..and that includes Texas. Bottom line I was referring to is that something is up with Baylor....another SMU in the makings. If you go back?..that is what I was referring to. Not our team recruiting in Texas or any other place.

Many OU fans do not see the energy that's taking place in Waco these days. Don't get me wrong, I don't care for him but Briles is a solid coach and is very respected in the High Schools across Texas. And while the UT fans hate to hear this, but Texas down, Baylor has filled their spot. Couple this with Cobb getting promised playing time as Freshman, he gone.

Man we have to land Kelly. Without him, this class slips down further again. Not only that, we need LBs in a bad way.

Art Briles won state championships in Texas for years before moving to the college ranks. He has a very good reputation amongst Texas high school football coaches. He also has a habit of finding those quality 2/3* players that many overlook. That he does this at Baylor might be a surprise, yet he has won anywhere he coached.

Bottom line, is Baylor is winning these days. Period. Not sure how that is causing confusion for you. Baylor isn't the dumpster fire program it has been historically anymore. Now you can stick your head in the sand and remain oblivious to what's going on. But Baylor building it's current situation on the backs of Texas talent coincides ironically with OU moving away from making Texas it's primary focus, and making national recruiting a bigger focus. Does OU still recruit Texas kids? Absolutely. And OU will still recruit plenty of Texas talent. Now you can call it "pundit writings", but I really don't know how you have remained oblivious to the fact that OU is going coast to coast to recruit talent these days, instead of raiding the hell out of Texas like it did historically.

That meant more kids for Baylor to go after, Baylor gets better, Baylor starts winning more ball games, Baylor recruits better kids, then Baylor gets even more better, Baylor wins even more games, Baylor wins conference titles, then more elite talent takes a more serious look at Baylor, hence we are at present day when kids are decommitting from OU and going to a place like Baylor.

OU use to be the place that made this happen. Doesn't seem like OU turns as many 2* and 3* kids into superstars like 10+ years ago.

Billy...my only confusion is you and having to take the time to type all of that out. Baylor may have a history at track and field...heck even women's basketball, but football? nah...ugh it is like chatting with my personnel manager..no thanks....have a good evening.

Who cares about history or tradition. You think an 18 year old kid right now gives a rats *** about how good or bad Baylor was before now?? A handful of kids of course will. But more and more kids these days look for a place that will put them into the NFL. That's the bottom line much more than tradition and history.

And it didn't take me long to type it out. I don't type with only dual index fingers. ;)

Here's how I see it. Stoops has brought in many Coaches over the past few years. Lots of changes. As such, most of these Coaches do not know or have the contacts in Texas. But they have contacts in other areas that they came from. Example: the Cali pipeline from M.Stoops & Kish days in the Pac 12. Riley is a great example as well. Who did he bring in this class as QB? A kid he was recruiting prior to coming to OU. So, as these 'new' Coa hes come on board they bring their lists, their contacts etc. Bob Stoops just rolls with it. Eventually, the coaches develop contacts etc in Texas.

I'm curious cuz I can't remember. But what coach/coaches were responsible for recruiting the Cali Trio before?? That happened before Mike/Kish came back.
But Bob was already going down the road of making California a focus even before his brother came back and brought Kish.

Oh gosh National Recruiting is not that new. Mack owned Texas in recruiting and that's the major reason. Baylor is not better because of OU recruiting that's far absurd. Barry had Jamelle Holieway from California 30 yrs ago. Baylor got Briles and Texas went down the tubes for awhile. Baylor is going head to head with Texas and A&M now days. Several players are choosing between the 3 tomorrow.

Couldn't have said it better myself. Baylor is going head to head with A&M and Texas cuz OU isn't in the picture with Texas kids like in years past. OU will still gets Texas kids no doubt. But I don't think OU has the presence in Texas it once had in years past. It's the tradeoff for spending more time trying to cherry pick talent nationally. OU loses presence in Texas, so kids tend to look for other options. Look at OUs current commitment list for tomorrow....18 kids committed...3 from Texas....

Bobby Jack Wright. My nephew-in-law coached at a very high level in the Texas High School system. Assistant head football coach. He told me BJW was revered by the Texas high school coaches in the late 90's and mid 2000's.

He got out of coaching several years ago. I think the newer generation of coaches probably respect Art Briles in the same way. JMO

Well on the surface, it appears we don't close too good for tomorrow. Man if we don't land Kelly, this will be by far Stoops worst incoming class on paper.

No, not even close.
We're at 15 or 16 right now...for us to fall to the levels you are pimping, we'd have to lose 3 four stars.

Not happening dude. Stoops' worst class ever was 16th place on rivals...

What do ya got to rebut that?

Ya a lot is riding on how tomorrow finishes out. This may be about the most up and down recruiting year for OU yet. At least the last few weeks of recruiting. Some big targets could still ink with OU and make it a really great class though.

Ummm....maybe you missed the OP of this thread in Cobb defecting to Baylor, thus dropping OU back down to 23....

So...what do ya got to rebut THAT??

As much as I'd like to say differently, I'm not feeling it. Cobb flipped, that dropped us. If we land Kelly, we might hit 15th or so. At this point, I don't think we'll even fill all the ships. I keep telling myself that this class was built off a 8-5 season of 2014 and that next year's class will be much improved w/ the 12-2 season. We'll see how it plays out tomorrow night.

WNAS, I forgot to mention Youngquist not signing as well in my reply to fitty. That will drop OU even further than the #23 they are currently ranked. Losing 4* Cobb dropped OU from 15 to 23. So losing another would likely drop OU down into the 30s.
OU has A LOT of catching up to do tomorrow if they want a top 15 class. Can it happen?? Of course it can. But it's going to take a lot of things falling in OUs favor, and planets aligning to make it happen.

My holy god I wish you'd put me on ignore.

It would be all upside for both of us.
Classic case of being able to dish it out, but you can't take it. Guess you can't handle being treated the way you treat others.

You can always put ME on ignore....not sure how your confused with that little detail.
