Pretty sure there are some DARPA-sponsored Vulcan-style mind control technologies being tested at Carver. They mostly test it on fans, and after 5pm when the second shift is on, those research guys like to have some fun and see if they can get the fans to act like the cast of Deliverance.
But they mostly direct the omega wave neuron disrupting transmitters onto the court at the refs. Occasionally, they misfire and hit Fran McCaffery right between the eyes, and his face turns pink and his eyebrows almost catch on fire. The temperature-sensitive breaker switches in Fran's skull shut it down before his head explodes, but if the guy manning the controls is busy working on his slurpee, Fran can get out of hand.
