Not asking what the issues are because at this point it doesn't matter, but don't like the fact he is no longer in school because most of the time guys don't make it back and that is concerning...comments

Didn't know that he wasn't in school. Sad, though not surprised whatever went down this way.

I would've been surprised to learn he WAS in school. This had the vibe of something that required him to drop everything else and return home to his family. Very sad.

If the rumours in HOB are true he should be eligible to apply for a hardship waiver (similar to medical hardship) and be granted a 6th year by NCAA. Reasons for hardship waivers are illness, death or extreme financial issues in the immediate family.

From what I have found on the net on Meant. He was born in the US and grew up with his mom in Florida, but he lived in Haiti until the age of 5. Also a reference that one (or more?) of his siblings weren't granted visa/ citizenship in the US some years ago and was returned to Haiti. The rumour is that Meant may be in Haiti taking care of his siblings.

Please note that no one has confirmed the rumour that one member posted.

Doesn't his eligibility clock stop if he ISN'T in school? Thus it would be best for him not to be in school and then re-enroll when his situation is resolved, thus giving him his final year of eligibility to play?

Ohh that's sad if true! Maybe some proceeds from the celebrity softball game could go to help Reggie and his family.

That has been the way it has worked in the past. You have five years of School to play 4. Some play professional baseball several years and then come back and play Football.

No - they come back after never having gone to college but having played baseball out of HS - you have 5 seasons to play 4 but all of that has to occur within a 6 year window that begins when you first start classes in college.

only special allowances change the 5 years to play 4 rule - religious missions, multiple seasons lost due to injuries

He can take online classes while he is away in order to stay eligible if (and that's a big if) he is able to come back this semester. He would have to complete 24 class hours by the end of the year (Big Spring Semester) and can take up to six Summer school hours.

There is no justice when the NCAA does not allow a member institution to help provide financial aid to any student athlete when a family crisis occurs. The situation in Haiti is deplorable; hoping the best for Reggie and his family.

Yes, but as soon as it's allowed, some will figure out how to abuse it. Can't win.

Why, then, just for student athletes?

Because student athletes contribute to the school at significant cost to themselves and their family; something the student body does very little if any. Not sure a lot of folks understand the level of responsibility and sacrifice that most student athletes make while in school.
