He's transferring, apparently, or at least Kyle Tucker was told not to expect to see Meant this season.

Sucks for Stoops and for us. Makes the season much more difficult.

I don't think he's transferring from any of the tweets I've seen! I really hope that isn't the case. We need him if not this year he would really help next year. Could he redshirt this year?

Kyle Tucker's tweet (obviously). SDS smelled blood and immediately posted that he's transferring. It's SDS and we're not on their to-do list (I hear they like to do Bama and LSU on the reg) so take it with a grain of salt.

Maybe Meant will redshirt this year to get his personal reasons figured out and come back in 2017? I don't know it's a weird situation.

Possible that folks saw the Long transfer and the Meant departure and mixed the two reports.

Again, it's SDS and we're Kentucky, so it's about a 50/50 chance of them just trying to garner clicks from a fanbase they regularly neglect.

Its one freaking player..good lord...next man up

One freaking player on one freaking unit on one freaking front seven on one freaking defense on one freaking team. Ugh. Why can't we just replace him with a McDAA?

Oh, that's right, he's one of the only experienced linemen on a vital portion of the defense. Losing him hurts more than you evidently know. Back to ignoring.

He's not transferring. Those reports are false.

He's just taking time to get his head straight.

Meant is a solid player but we have 7 players that all have as much upside or more. It hurts depth no doubt but we will still be ok. We have options. Stoops said Bell could play there. His 260 pound listing must be wrong the way Stoops sounded.

This is the one position we always seem to be very behind, been that way for a long time.

We have a TON of young talent that can fill the roll but the depth really hurts. In the end, it may work out just as well

So all you 7/8 win people, tame your expectations. You guys get hyped every year and then injuries happen and lack of depth shows! I'm remaining cautiously optimistic, but this is a huge blow, and it irritates the hell out of me when some of you dismiss it as no big deal. IT'S A BIG DEAL to lose a starter at a position where we are already weak and lack depth! Like, it could be the difference in a couple of games at least! This sucks!

I am beginning to think we have a Bear Bryant curse on our football program. We cannot catch a break.

First Hatcher, now Meant. If we have a good D line this year, I will personally nominate Stoops, Elliot and Brumbaugh for co coach of the year.

Pretty damn big loss IMO. I don't know how some are glossing over this one. I certainly don't know the circumstances but often times this end of school to first week of camp period holds a big personnel surprise... usually not good. It was only this week the Card fans learned of Sturghill's summer shooting then Thomas' "not football related" surgery.

FWIW, while "reviewing" some tape of Elam's play last year I couldn't help but notice (and be impressed with) Meant's play. Good lateral movement for a big guy meaning he could make plays "outside" of his gap.

Peace

What he may mean is move Miggins inside and Bell at DE. A weak position just got weaker and now is assured that Looney and/or Cross don't RS. Sucks.

Next man up i say...i guess if Boom goes down you will just wanna forfeit the season...UK is major college football team...quit frettin over one guy
Always a blow to lose experienced lineman especially with out depth. It's ok to acknowledge the significance of this loss but not ok to fret and whine over it. Kordell, TJ, Tymere time to step up.

And coaches take this opportunity to turn up the aggressive nature you build in your team to make up for it. An aggressive Hell's Comin style of play can make up for short comings so lets start right now.

Kind of like when we did the "next man up" thing when Nerlens went down a few years ago? How did that work out? Hopefully, if I put it in terms you can understand, you will get it. There is no next man up at this position. We are already playing kids before they are ready. Sure, somebody will move up and play the position but they will not play it as well as Regie did. Whats worse is that the player who fills his spot would have been the player who would have stepped in for a couple of downs to give Meant a break. The 2nd string guy will now be the starter and the player who has to give him a break will be even further down the depth chart. It could also cause us to burn a red shirt and that could affect the DL for years to come. I am not sure what your story is. Probably just have no clue and like to spout off but this is a very big deal.

Add "for attention and to be awful on purpose" and you nailed it. Most of us have him on ignore, but still shows up when you guys quote him.

Tubman, Hatcher, Meant--it's too hard to find quality DL, especially at UK, to be without three guys for a variety of reasons.

The same people who are saying that Meant hasn't really made an impact in his 2 years here are now the same people saying this is a huge loss.

Make up your mind.

lol nice and thank you for calling these folks out. Meant is a solid player but we do have some depth that is unproven but has also been in the system for a couple years. Teams lose players this is football but we still have a bunch of talent to put out there

Wow, someone who understands football, and the concepts of Depth and Rshirting in relation to having a stellar D-line! Amazing!

LOL. Please stop it.

Ya know I wouldn't laugh too much about that, from what I've read and watched Saturday he was second team but you never hear anything about it which makes me wonder about when the depth chart was updated he went from third team to second pretty quick. Larry might be onto something JMO
