What's the complaint? That you have more options? In Fayette there used to be only two places to renew a license. Now there are still two, but I can also go to Frankfort or Georgetown or several other places.

I got my realid two years ago. I hope the process has been updated since. My regional was actually closer than my courthouse, so luck of the draw.

But, people having to drive counties away is ********. We are wanting to encourage ids for voting, but put up another speed bump. Was it a fed reg to set it up this way or did KY come up with it on it's own?

To top it off, the regional office was just data collecting. If the realid license has to be printed in Frankfort, can't county courthouse employees be trusted to collect that info. Ya know like we've done for a couple hundred years?

I gotta say it was awesome carrying that 8.5x11 message that my real license was in the mail for a month.

Try going to Leestown road location to renew. You will see people in their car waiting then walk inside and you will see 50 people in lobby waiting with no end in sight. I was told even if you are lucky enough to get appointment (look online and you will see appointments are like a month out) I was told by workers there you could still wait hours. So there definitely needs to be a change.

Yea, let's spend more state money on more drivers' license offices. What a great idea.

The Ky website blames it on the fed for the transition. Indiana has 93 counties and 125 BMV locations to get it done.

They even have machines at the locations where you can go and swipe your debit card and renew your license and registration like an ATM. Just put in your info and scan the back of your ID

Impeccable timing for this thread. I spent almost 2 hours waiting in line to get my license renewed at a regional office yesterday.

I'm lucky that I have two regional offices close to me in Covington and Bellevue, however. The locations are convenient for me but the processing load for each is not.

I live in Buckner, in Oldham County. So naturally going to Louisville makes sense. Nope, it takes forever to get an appointment and even if you get an appointment, it could take 5 hours. I’ve been traveling to Bellevue, Independence and Frankfort to get stuff done in a more timely fashion. I probably won’t go back to Independence however.

The Independence office was a zoo the one time I went there. There were at least 20 people seated in chairs with a line out the door.

Even with an appointment, it took us well over 1.5 hours for service.

Tennessee can still get it done at the county clerk.

Note: County Clerks can only issuing REAL IDs to current Tennessee Driver License and ID holders.

Note: County Clerk Offices may elect to serve only residents in their county.

If you don't meet the above, you have to go to a Drivers Licensing Center.

I now know more about this than I should. We suck.

I live in Madison County. I had my license renewed at the new office in the Richmond mall. I was expecting a big hassle, and a big wait. When I went in there were a bunch of people in line, but they have their act together there because I was in and out in @ 20 minutes. No complaints here, but I imagine I probably would had they moved ours to Lexington.

The whole process is a rat race. and lacks any organization whatsoever.
Put it back in the Circuit Court Clerk's office, use X number of satellite
offices depending on population served.
It appears that they won't be happy until we are standing in blocks long lines downtown again.....It was too convenient previously......I mailed my last renew.......I have to go in person the next time.

I had to go renew my license last week. Granted, I didn't sign up for an appointment, and I got there at 1:00 pm (the one off Iron Works) BUT

It took 4 hours and 45 minutes.

For walkups, you go in the front door, scan a QR Code, fill in the information and register. It gives you a number and puts you in the queue. Then you go back to your car and wait for a text to tell you to come inside.

I just renewed my license yesterday and after scanning the qr code and getting 12 on the wait list. I went back home 20 minutes away. Watching it move a spot a hour I thought for sure I would get the ha ha at closing time. It took 5 hours but it was definitely crazy seeing all the people needing help in person. Was 100 people there and I scanned in at 9 am. Passed the eye test in 30 seconds and payed for the renewal. License will be mailed to me in 30 days it says. I give the experience a 2 out of 10.

I felt terrible for the workers there, because I guess if you get in the queue, you're guaranteed to be seen that day, which means those clerks are working WAY past 4:00 which is when it is supposed to close. Now, I get it; governments worker and what not, but still...

The whole problem began when Hal Rogers was named to be in charge of RealID, delays, needed more funding, delays, needing more funding, rinse repeat....

I got my Real ID back when they first started...I wanna say 4 yrs ago...Had to drive 3 counties away but it wasn't a bad wait since I had an appointment. But it took more secondary ID's than it did for my passport, which is crazy in my opinion!

I am glad I got my Real ID in 2020. Seeing the lines backed out the door every day I drive by it in Elizabethtown is absolutely ridiculous. Should be done in your own county, especially since they are mailing the IDs out and you don't even get it that very day.

Luckily Warren Co is the regional site. Bet your *** you had better have an appointment. I had a appointment, was in and out in less than 15 minutes. Poor fools just "showing up" had to wait 2/3 hours IF THEY WAS LUCKY. I got there minutes before the place was even open (had a 8:15 appointment), the line was 30 deep at least. When I strolled right on by the waiters, they had the look that they wanted to murder me and the look of envy. I walked out minutes later and the line was in amazement, and hadn't moved ANY. I feel for the people who just walk in and think it will be a short time, it clearly says on the sign "IT IS BEST TO SCHEDULE AN APPOINTMENT", those words never rang more true.

Also, I do not need a passport, travel very little. No need for a REAL ID, just the standard drivers license suffices just fine for my day to day life.

Is the stupidest thing the state has ever done and that’s saying something. I live in the Louisville area and have to travel to other cities to get anything done. I wish KY had a DOGE office to audit these clowns.
If there was a KY DOGE then there would be even less offices and employees so more travel involved.

When the regional offices opened, the state hired a whole new bureaucracy's worth of employees to make it happen. I'm pretty sure you didn't post in opposition to that.
He's all about progress, even if it's heading in the wrong direction.
