My wife and I may be relocating soon and possibilities of where to live seem to be Bowling Green, Russellville and Hopkinsville in Kentucky and Clarksville, TN. Can anyone give me any opinions on living in that area? General pros and cons? I'd be working just north of Russellville, so maybe there are other towns that might make sense. We are in our mid-50s. Thanks in advance for any help.

No, not that bad - you will be maybe an hour or less from Nashville in any of those locations. I am not an expert on that part of the state by any means but Bowling Green will be the obvious choice on the KY side. It is a fast growing college town and will have the most dining/shopping options and quick access to I-65.
imp:I'm American. Born in Louisville, but raised across the river. Just don't know Bowling Green and surrounding areas much more than driving through it. Live in Atlanta now. I like mid sized cities and actually like small towns with some character. Somewhat rural is fine with me, but intensely redneck is not.

Hopkinsville: Farms and Mennonites. This would be rural. About an hour from Nashville. I dated a girl from here and visited frequently. There is not a whole lot to do but the people are friendly enough and if you want a small town with a tad of character, this would be it.
Clarksville: Military town. Lots of pawn shops, bars, and strip clubs. Closest to Nashville though.

In small-town Kentucky, you're talking a razor-thin line between the two. Some places are overrun with rednecks (Georgetown KY, Winchester KY, Nicholasville , Mt Washi...oh hell all of Bullitt Co, Hoptown). BG is a growing college town--so stay in/around the limits.
I know Atlanta traffic is crap esp around 285 and 400..but don't over correct and land yourself in Wanker County Iowatucky.

Hopkinsville is small relative to Atlanta but it's still one of the biggest cities in the state, not exactly a rural farm town.
BowlingGreen, hands down, Alvaton area is nice. Above avg schools, below avg crime, close to many recreational areas.
Bowling Green is obviously best town mentioned. Only advantage to Clarksville is that there is no state income tax in TN, just a little higher sales tax.
Lots of bad options. A small town with character would be Russellville. Or franklin Simpson. Hopkinsville is awful. Clarksville is worse.
