I'm in the process of possibly looking for a new job and we have tossed around the idea of relocating to Florida (Saint Augustine/Jacksonville). The wife and I had planned on moving there a few years ago before we found out we were expecting, yet the itch to move has came upon us again.

For those of you who have relocated, what are some tips/tricks to get into the local job market being from out of state? I've read on some websites to get an address in the area that you're relocating to and to format your resumes/cover letters as such. However, different sites say not to do this. What's the best way to get your foot in the door to where you're planning/hoping to move?

Going through the same process. Some postings do say local candidates only / preferred. If so, just move on. However, a lot just want to understand why you're looking. I've had 4 out of state interviews and all have asked and I have been able to answer. Still in the running for all of the positions.

You are a Marine, right? Establish residency in the target state. Expand on adaptability + flexibility themes. Some sort of credibility, such as a certification, also helps.

Yeah - served 4 years in the USMC with two tours in Iraq. I received my undergraduate degree in Psychology and am currently pursuing my graduate degree after being a case manager/program supervisor for an adolescent addiction program for a few years.

They have different certifications for their mental health professionals and I've been trying to find a way to test for various certifications without living in the state so that I'm more marketable. I've applied for several non-profit organizations that support Vets over the past week, I'm just trying to find a way to make myself stand out as an out-of-state candidate.
