The Poke team-member fingers were sized for their conference and national championship rings today.
Aye yi yi.
Aye yi yi.
Well, to play devil's advocate... they do say that it all starts with mentality. If you want to be a winner, you first have to think like a winner.
Everyone here should remember Bob Stoops' response during/after the 1999 season when asked how he orchestrated the dramatic turnaround. He stated that the team already had the talent, but they didn't have the mindset of winners after 5 previous years of losing/tied records. Step one was getting them to believe that they could win.
They should be 'sized' for their favorite sheep or reindeer... (but hell, no way I want to see that!)
I don't see getting fitted for rings as egotistical. I see it more of planting a seed mentally in their minds that it sets them on the road to win. I've always believed that "Champions are CONVINCED they can win. Everyone else HOPES they can win." Getting sized for rings is a step to get the players in a mindset of knowing they have their rings sized so now all they need to do is go out and make it happen. It's no different than preparing for a competition and you already have a spot reserved in your house for the trophy or championship bowl that you are convinced you are going to win. It's purely a mental thing. There's a difference between positive mentality and egotistical action.
They've never won a national title and they are sizing for rings? Stupid.
